I had an epiphany about backing up a tractor-trailer on a city street

@Kyle G. you think you need a drink? I live in Marion county where all this stupidity took place! I’ve hesitated to comment, but I’m still trying to wrap my head around this scenario, I can almost guarantee Ive pulled in that pilot with an exiting vehicle, and if not, there’s no reason the situation should have ever existed, it’s a left turn from a center median turn lane that would have absolutely no effect on a driver making the mistake of exiting out of the entrance!

    Now I need a drink!

The frustration that so many folks have with your threads and questions is that you should have known the answers to your questions and/or had these epiphanies much earlier in your trucking career. And not because your trainer did or didn’t tell you, though a good trainer is a big help, but because you’re paying attention and actively noticing and thinking about what you’re doing as you’re doing it.

Really, you should have known from experience in your first week of driving a truck that you have a huge blind spot behind you. You should have realized this because you looked in your mirrors and noticed that you couldn’t be certain if anything was behind you because there’s a 53’ long, 13.5’ tall, 8.5’ wide trailer blocking your view.

It’s a good thing to have questions, but it’s a great thing to try to figure out answers using your own logic and reasoning. Most of what I’ve learned as a truck driver are things that I learned from experience and my own problem solving (like practically everything I know about backing up and maneuvering a trailer, my trainers weren’t great teachers).

Yes, and even better if you’re not late.

The phrase "closed thread" comes to mind because so many people, including myself, need drinks.
