I had an epiphany about backing up a tractor-trailer on a city street

    Not if the Sun is directly overhead.

    Furthermore, a motorcycle might not leave a shadow that is identifiable as a motorcycle when one is sitting in the truck over 70 feet away.

    Someone could quickly drive up in their car or motorcycle in the time in between when I check the blind spot and when I am climbing back into the truck.

    One time I had to wait in the travel lane because a red truck was exiting, even with my clouded judgement while contemplating my life choices I still managed to stop in time to let him out without having to back up. No cars or motorcycles were harmed.

    Imagine being stuck in the circle thingy with no exit signs posted. Do you just keep driving in the circle or go inside and ask them to put up a sign.
