What I meant by "just anywhere" was, a strip mall, a street, an abandoned building, a Walmart store, a Home Depot, any other store with a big parking lot or an unused lot, a hotel parking lot, a restaurant with a big parking lot, a fast food place with truck parking, an "adult entertainment" place, etc, etc, etc... I know there are places other than the truck stops and rest areas on those guides... and you can find more places if you have a smart phone with those apps... but many of these places are no guarantee that you can stay there for the entirety of your break... Some don't allow trucks.. others you have to be a customer... and security may be ask you to move... which can be a problem if you have an elog...
Lots of places in the northeast don't have any truck parking at all... you have to plan your trip and appt. in such a way that you will be able to get parking at the end of your 14... If something happens, you are screwed... Those places definitely need more truck parking...
You know, it used to be easier when I was on a dedicated account... But being OTR makes it a little more challenging... Nevertheless, I haven't got a log violation yet because I spend considerable time planning my trips, my stops, checking google for possible places to park, calling customers in advance to find out about parking at their premises... and parking one hr and sometimes even more than one hr earlier so to make sure I'll find a place to park...And other times, I have to reschedule appt. so that I don't get stranded somewhere...
I could save a lot of that headache and run more if there were more places to park...Vilhiem, TruckDuo, Straight Stacks and 1 other person Thank this. -
