You are saying, there's enough truck parking in the US... except in the northeast...
If you are on paper and can move your truck in the middle of your break if needed so, that's not much of a problem...
And the problem is not the lack of parking... but elog...
I would say, it's a combination of HOS rules + lack of parking... Elog is just an extra aggravation on top of it all...

they tell me the streets in SLC are numbered for how far away they are from the temple
i think it is MI I saw a sign for 7 1/2 mile road or sumthin with a fraction

It seems to me that you both are in agreement that it's a problem. It's just that the approach to the problem is more pragmatic ( i.e. practical ) in FD's mind. Neither one of you are actually disagreeing with the other, just have different ways of dealing with it. IMO.
