My wife and her grandparents back in the day were watching the news and they had a live broadcast about police raiding a pickle park. Who do they see in handcuffs ? Her step-dads father. Dude was all about God and been married for like 30 years.

I'll do whatever is necessary to make sure I am taking care of and not in violation. Even if it means paying to park.

I'm not against putting a little money down to help out as I know that maintaining a parking lot for us is probably extremely expensive. What I have a problem with is when the truckstops up request money to park, and then vanishes.

I seriously doubt that this is the case for all truck stops with paid parking. My experience however, details that places which require you to pay to park at some of the worst lots, security, facilities, and are often unkempt. Don't get me wrong, I don't pull into these places expecting something a kin to the Ritz Carlton. It's a parking lot.

Show me where my money is going, and I'll be a happy camper.

I think to say that there is enough truck parking for everyone is extremely shortsighted. As quickly as America is growing, as well as it's ever increasing appetite for goods that we carry, we will need more and more drivers in the next decade.

On one hand, some of the older drivers may either retire or pass on. This will free up some spaces, however from what I have seen in the south there is not enough truck parking.

Specifically, I'm referring to places where you can park legally without risk of a ticket, or being dinged in the event of an accident. In most Walmarts, since there are not any official places for trucks to park, if we are hit by a four wheeler while parked up we still get a ticket even if we are allowed to park there.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't feel that there is enough space or profit up to keep truckstops up as the sole place to park.

I'm in agreement with hewho, shippers who do interstate commerce and/or deal with trucks up on a constant basis either need to open up their own property for over the road drivers to park, or work with other similar businesses in the area to maintain a lot off site that is open only to drivers who have business in their facility.

As a sidenote, it may be important to note that everyone here has a difference of opinion when it comes to what they feel is acceptable truck parking.

Some might be OK with simply pulling over on the side of the interstate. Others might not mind parking using on ramps. Others still Will get creative inside of truck stops. What you consider OK and acceptable is up to you.

For me, Acceptable truck parking means a designated area set aside that is either out of the way and will not get me ticketed, or a place that is clearly marked for trucks to park in. That means I don't get creative in truck stops, park on the side of the road ( except at some shippers where that is their designated area and traffic is at a bare minimum.).

That may make me look like a chicken, however it is also my protection to some degree against the idiocy and lack of skill of others, and the occasional Barney Fife/overzealous officer. I like to fly under the radar, and I figure that is the best way to do it since hours of service is in fact enforced.

I feel that both you and @FatDaddy have made valid arguments. I would imagine your difference of opinion is based on what you feel is acceptable parking. Since that's a guess though, I could be entirely wrong. It would certainly not be the first time.

I've never had trouble finding parking at a poultry processing plant. Just sayin..

I take my radios out when I park at home. Sometimes I don't bother with them if doing a quick local pickup r delivery. Driving just feels wrong without my Ranger 2970N2 blocking part of my windshield.

Sure you can. If you were going to work for the PD, that is.

That right there is funny. One of my smarter half's first ride alongs, she comes back to the truck after a shopping and rest room visit to the store. She tells me she was baffled about two heifers in the ladies room that were giving her the evil eye and she hadn't done anything or said a word. I told her they were in there getting a washout. It took a few seconds for her to figure that out LOL. As @Cranky Yankee might say, it was "sunrise ovah Mahblehead."

One reason I usually park at the TA East at the 142. The marketplace is much smaller than the area around the 140, and thus doesn't attract as many service vendors.

There's something to be said about a woman that has your back in a fight. Next time we cross paths, I'll tell you the story about the Davenport IA antique bike show, and a dude mouthing off that came --><-- this close to getting his ### beat by a girl.

I usually park on well lit new concrete, with hi-viz reflective paint strips marking the 15' wide space. The valet brings out a red carpet so I don't scuff my steel toe loafers, along with chilled sparkling water and a fresh fruit basket. Once I'm settled, they surround my truck with velvet ropes and traffic cones to prevent any encroachment. Then after the limo comes by to take me to the showers, the valet goes inside and puts chocolates on my pillow and turns down the covers. I usually don't bring that up in parking arguments. Next thing you know, everybody will want some. LOL.
