No that would defeat the purpose of having to administer the discipline in the first place. As a result it rarely ever has to be used......although it is never to be just arbitrarily administered either. There has to be a clear indiscretion that warrants it.

Mine was exactly the same way.

It was no different with my children regardless of the then starting to change attitudes in parenting at the time which have totally gone off the rails now.

It made me the man and success I am and in turn made my son the man and the success he is.

Contrast that with my stepchildren I'm sad to say who are being turned into lazy losers by their worthless white trash bum of a father who would have me arrested if I discipline or touch them in any way.

You can't just parent and lead by example. The discipline and reinforcement that poor behavior has consequences must be there as well.

Oh my parents certainly did not spare the belt. It was a 1 inch thick leather strap. By the time we both turned 14 Half of the belt had broken off from use, and the buckle was just barely hanging on to that part.

I think my folks ended up stopping, not because it worked, but because it stopped hurting.
