Turns out my Halloween candy purchase strategy paid off. I get good candy, so if I end up not giving it all out, I'm not stuck with a bag full of cheap stuff. My son didn't get over to start the refrigerator move until late in the afternoon. By the time we got done and back home, trick-r-treat was over. So now I have $20 of surplus candy to dispose of. Darn the luck LOL.

I see I missed the hurt feelings fest while out delivering an appliance. Two things come to mind.

I have a group of motorcycle folks I follow from back in the days of internet newsgroups. Most have migrated to FB as technology marches forward. Most of us have met in real life at some point in the past decade or two. Among those, there are a few whom I consider to be very cool people. Folks I will seek out upon arrival at a group meet, or reach out to if I happen to be trucking thru their home territory with time to stop. Several of them have political or lifestyle opinions that are polar opposite to my own beliefs. Sometimes it's difficult, but I value the friendship way more than winning a debate. Whether on social media or in person, there are some topics where I just don't participate, despite strong feelings to the contrary.

Phone calls LOL. Everyone thinks truck drivers have all the time in the world for a phone call. Maybe some do. Once in a blue moon, I do too. Most of the time, however, I just don't want to be bothered. My hearing isn't what it once was, and between that and the generally crappy sound quality of the latest smartphones and bluetooth hearing accessories, I often struggle to follow a simple conversation over the phone. Especially when I'm driving. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy hearing from someone, and once in a while actually do call people back LOL. Probably doesn't help much that I'm not real chatty to begin with. If I haven't been calling you, it's me, not you, and it probably ain't personal.

I don't go out of my way to be anonymous, but don't exactly share everything. If someone wants to reach you, you've probably left enough bread crumbs for someone that's motivated. I've had one or two folks contact me to ask about my business having found my phone number after figuring out enough facts to get to it (where it is public information). I've also had one or two folks think they were hurting me by sharing personal info like my real name or the like, here and elsewhere, to show off how smart they are. I'm over it. It's just not that important. Fortunately, I'm one of the most boring people on the planet and not wealthy either, so not much of a target for stalkers. I'm not hiding from law enforcement, bill collectors, or any psycho ex-wives, so I don't have a problem with it really. The fact I haul reefers, and carry an axe, duct tape, and trash bags with me, might also have something to do with it LOL. Do you know how many trash cans there are along the length of I-85? I didn't think so.

I have to agree on all points.

Like the wife said the other day lol I don't want to talk to anyone.....on a personal level.....except the very few that grab my attention and get my number. That said there are a few of you here that fall into that rarified air category.

The ones in the truck stops like fatdaddy seems to attract an overabundance of lol those I can be insanely rude to and walk away from and never lose a moments sleep over. In fact, depending on how obnoxious they are I get quite a bit of satisfaction out of being a bigger ####### to them than they were obnoxious to me lol

I'll be more than happy however to help out with information where I can for a fellow driver and sometimes a quick call is the best way to handle it cause the need is immediate. Anyone that has my number knows they can call anytime if they need something and I'll be there in whatever capacity I can

I'll put a footnote on what red said about phone calls to include some of us ( most of us? ) aren't exactly sure when some of the others are driving or sleeping unless we're in the middle of an online conversation or have made prior arrangement for a timeframe to call given the schedules we all deal with......and I think not wanting to wake someone unless absolutely necessary is a respect thing more than anything. I know I don't like getting woke up lol but also as a former trainer I have a standing 24/7 commitment to all of my former students if they ever need me, even now a couple years after the fact. Many of them still do call me at all hours and those I have to take.

I think knowing where all available dumping sites are in a particular area is solely dependent on where the ex lives hehehe

@Rocks I think for men, the requirements of a functional parking place are lower than those for women. It must seem when women get out of their truck its something akin to dangling a chunk of meat in the middle of a ravenous pack of hungry wolves.

That being said, I haven't had trouble finding parking in a long time. True, I may be on to plan D5.7 rev C by the time I find one, but it's out there. You have to have some alternate locations, consider the time of day, and start with enough time left on your clock so that your parking plan is reasonable. And, most important, going into an area of limited parking, NEVER overlook a lightly used rest area because you'd much rather be gorging yourself on fast food up the road. That one comes back to bite ya.
