Ahhhh, the joys of getting older. Totally forgot about this place. Joe's Place. Marengo, IL. Drop your wagon at the Elgin TA, or the road ranger pilot, or whatever they call themselves this month, across the road from the TA. The Elgin TA is off I-90, exit 36. Book it west on hwy 20, past Harmony and Coral (who's combined population is about 500, including livestock). As soon as you hit Marengo, on the right is a place called, Joe's Place. Really good food. Hot dogs, Italian beef, that kinda stuff, plus PIZZA!!! I'm not sure if you could park a 18 wheeler on the shoulder, from either direction, but I'll try to verify.

I'm pretty sure they don't deliver, quite that far, but I suppose I could talk to Joe about that. We used to work together at Chicago International, back when it was called Freund International. Many moons ago. Can't believe I forgot about that place.

    There's also a very similar specialty deep-dish pizza place 2 side-streets over from Burt's (2 streets east) called Pequod's.
They're so close, you could throw a rock and hit each place if standing between them.

I've eaten at Pequod's many years ago, but never at Burt's. Pequod's also has a cozy type "home" setting/atmosphere.
It actually has slightly higher ratings than Burt's, but ratings are close, and that's all subjective anyway. Just an FYI.

Geez I woke up with Werner on one side and CRE on the other. And they're close. Too close. Glad I wasn't awake to see that happening lol

but I chose my spot well I get to drive straight out while everyone else is stuffed in here.

oh I jump up if the wind blows too hard. Gotta give them both credit for squeezing in there without dinging my purty black truck.

But yeah, special circumstances like that require the spotlight and a thorough once over not just the regular pretrip flashlight lol Guess everyone gets lucky once in awhile.

I live very close to that place. Live near I-90 and Barrington Road. We eat at that Portillos all the time. Had pizza from the Lou Malnatis once...it was okay. Rosatis is much better.

Ginos East opened up a new location right by us at the old Mill Rose restaurant by the AMC theaters. Haven't tried it yet.

KW Cajun, Burt started 'Pequod's' in Morton Grove back in the 70s/80s then sold it to a guy who opened a couple more locations. Pequods has better reviews because of the fact people don't like all the rules Burt makes you follow. Burts an old man now and can't handle the large volume of customers. He focuses more on quality. He started 'The Inferno', 'Gullivers', 'Pequods' and he's making his last stand at 'Burts Place'.
