Last time I was there I was standing in front of our hotel waiting for my wife to come down and some guy approached me and started motioning. I thought he wanted a cigarette or something and then my wife comes out and she says something to him and he runs away. She asked me if I knew what he wanted and I told her I thought he wanted a cigarette or some change or something and she said "No, he was trying to sell you his sister for P100" (100 Filipino Pesos) which at the time was about $1.88.

Unfortunately, the Filipino culture devalues women..they are a commodity or something to be traded like livestock, not a human being.

Yeah, this May my wife and I will celebrate our 12th anniversary and I am still learning about her culture. It was fun to watch her when she first got here though. I picked her up at LAX in a friends pick up truck that I had borrowed and driven from Phoenix. She asked how long it would take to drive back to TN to meet my parents and I told her about 4 days and she thought I was joking. The island she lived on was about 1/3 the size of TN, and she could NOT grasp the size of the US. Seeing the country again through her eyes was a blast though....
