I'm not sure how mine gets a hold of some of the stuff he ends up chewing either... Little Tupper ware cups, the dust pan, his food scoop, a screwdriver ...

 

I haven't had a general disagreement with this crew, but if y'all think dealing with the FMCSA is a pain, try getting past the FAA as either a unqualified student or as a piss poor instructor. Go ahead... try it. If you can't demonstrate the required proficiency, you're not getting a license or rating. In fact, the FAA is much more willing to pull a license than anyone in trucking. As for the advent of technology in the ####pit, none of that obviates the necessity of basic familiarity with stick, rudder and basic airmanship. The idea that there is some magic button to get one out of trouble is absurd.

 

Yep very true.

Don't think we'll ever have to worry about DOT standing at the truck when we get out to fuel wanting to see our license, medical and logs lol

Happened more than a few times at the airport over 30+ years though

It's a whole different level of scrutiny.

 

I never said unqualified... I said lacking in skill.

An OD driver that can't keep his doubles straight even after pulling them for a year is a qualified driver. But he lacks skill.

A swift driver that can get it into the hole once for the examiner is qualified..

See where I'm going with this? Qualified is one thing. Having sufficient skill is another. Even the faa has dumbed it's tests down some...

However, the scrutiny is warranted... Even a smaller airplane has the potential to do more damage than one of us could.

 

That was sort my logic. I found the old guy, but the one at KPDK. I figured if I'm gonna do it, may as well be at a tower controlled airport. It makes for busy training at the field with mostly big turbo props and light jets in the pattern. We also did some morning flights to Charlie Brown (KFTY). That was cool, as there were always traffic helicopters somewhere, and a great view of 6 flags LOL.

 

Wake to a rainy, windy grey morning.....perfect conditions to go mount the new router in the Master Lift and make some fresh sawdust! Have about a dozen or so router bits from the Father-in-Laws collection to sample and discover what the outcome will be.

I must admit, gratefully, I am blessed with a wonderful family. Growing up, we were not a close family unit all my hunting and sports was done with neighboring friends, not my father or brother. From the time Deb (Significance) and I began dating, I was always made to feel and be part of this family. Many hours working alongside Deb's father, learning to work with wood and general maintenance of tools and machines. Long chatty discussions of everything under the sun with Deb's mother....which seemed to get under Deb's skin a bit, LOL..... Grandpa grew up in North Dakota on a farm (Grandma too) and he didn't even finish high school due to working the family land, enlisted in the USAF to avoid the draft (Korea conflict) which was our initial common ground...USAF...now he's gone, and there is so much more I wanted to learn from and with him...the father I never had growing up.

I had the time the first years to get to know Deb's grandmother....she was a hoot! Loved to cheat at YAHTZEE...we got 3 rolls, she usually didn't remember doing the first three, but after 5 or 6 it went to the next players turn...........just reminiscing...out loud!

 

we got him slack every day
and he still tries to tell us about things we knew more about 20 years ago then he will know about 20 years from now
mostly he tries my patience
there appears to be no subject he isn't well versed in

 

so mostly your saying Deb has been correct all along
you were not much until she found you?

 

Funnier still that 20 years from now he still won't be as old as some of us are now
