I'm trying Cranky, I'm trying to learn.

Might never reach the levels you all have, but as long as I'm learning I'm alive. Long as I'm alive, I'm learning.

...and the unknown is something to face...but there's still plenty of stuff I don't know.

Same thing. You have to demonstrate your skill to get a license. Good enough to be Swift driver (or SNI) doesn't exist in aviation... it gets the pilot and others dead.

The majority of the recent non-US commercial aviation accidents can be traced to a lack of the basic ability of a pilot to fly an aircraft without reliance on technology. Aviation is a harsh mistress.

...actually...it's funny. This is an insult to me...lol

    Edit:
The reason I find that statement to be insulting... It's vastly more important to know what you don't know over what you do know.

Books, internet, personal curiosity....why not? Deb's mother has a GED....married Dale and dropped out of high school and went back after the girls were born.....but she knows about most any subject through reading and personal insight.

    I will agree with that.

The actual faa exam is something I don't know of. So I can only speak of what has recently been shared with me from the small amount of instructors who didn't want to pass a student on to the exam but the company did.

It's possible that the instructors were being overly cautious without need, but it's also possible that the student passed the exam before they were ready.

    TruckDuo and otherhalftw Thank this.

Not true. I saw his potential and went from there. We definitely had some growing pains along the way, but here we are 26 years later, and I absolutely love the man I knew he always was, and is. He just needed someone to love him as he was making the journey to where he is.

And yes, without a doubt, I have been correct all along. lol

It's about the same with the mega's and numbers.....company wants to see "graduated to solo" stats that bolster advertising and hiring, good trainers want to see them qualified not just moved up the line without the skills, but the company has the final say. Same issue in the public school system...don't hold them back, just keep moving them along...ready or not!

You're a lucky man. I was never close with my family. I was the youngest of five boys and my mom and dad were from the old school. My dad decided that we should all learn a trade so when I was eight he bought a buiding supply/contracting business and we all went to work. I started by stocking shelves, loading and unloading trucks, and waiting on customers. The older I got the more I was expected to learn. I learned how to build a house from drawing the plans to the finish trim, and how to do all the accounting necessary in that business. What I never did get was any quality time with my family. By the time we finished our days all we wanted to do was eat, take care of the livestock and go to bed. I know they loved me, but I can count on one hand the times they told me. I lost both of my parents three years ago. First my mom and three months later my dad. I was never close to my brothers and since then other than the funerals I haven't seen them. I love my wife's family but since they're 12,000 miles away and speak no English there isn't a lot of interaction between us. Add to that my battle with cancer and my diagnosis of death within two years and you might think I would be a negative person, but it has actually made me just the opposite. I know when I go my family will know I loved them. They will know because I tell them multiple times a day. My son knows nothing comes between us spending time together. He is almost ten years old and I would give anything to be able to throw a football around with him, or even take a walk with him, but he knows it isn't because I don't want to. Anyway....dang......sorry everybody. My phone is so hot I can barely hold it so I went on far too long. :) Hope everybody has a great day! I will be watching the Titans finding new and entertaining ways to lose with my son. ;)

Well last night turned out with a good ending, and I'm in a good mood today.
My apologies if I made anyone feel unwelcome or said anything I shouldn't have. I'll try to behave in future.
