Rode a many miles back and forth on the 1949 (if I remember the year right) Case LA. Mid 50s Jonny Popper as well.
All them old tractors 2 H's the JP an old A and the Cass still running to this day. Don't remember all tge years but fot think any was newr than mid 70's.

May have over estimated my abilities a little at that age as far as what the tractors would drive though but backing that was one thing that was instilled deep young 10 11 dad would make me back up the 1 mile drive with only mirrors and a good head bop if you tried to cheat. Then he added the trailer next came the hay wagon talk about a pain in the butt a 1 mile winding up and around bends with a hey wagon 6' tonuge. To put in trucking its like a fedex pup then a 53' box.
So got pretty good with backing.
And yet every now then still fight a few especially when realy tired.
Agreed that 5 foot mower trailer can be an absolute PITA.

yep lol got the head smack too if I looked over my shoulder backing the pickup.

We had good fathers. Character and skill builders even though we didn't realize it at the time. A dying breed anymore as evidenced by what passes for 'men' in a lot of the younger generations now.

Thankfully at least my son got raised the same way and now he's raising his that way.

Yep if it had mirrors you used them except for backing practice he did not allow the rearview.
Did not like him much of the time then but sure glad he was the way he was after i grew up for sure.

as I felt as well then as many of our generation feel I'm sure and told him so many years later after I was old enough to learn the humility to express it. As much as I hated him then I respect and look up to him tenfold now. I would in no way be the success I am now on so many levels outside of trucking had he been a different man. Now I drive because I want to and enjoy it, not because I have to.

Fast forward to to now and I had to sit back and laugh at my now grown son a couple weeks ago with his 5 year old. He already knew. He just looked at me and said '###### I sound just like you. You just think that's funny as hell don't you'. Yeah, I do.

Funny how how that works. There is hope at least for one more generation lol
