It's so cool to read the past days posts. Everyone's stories are facinating.

Rochelle Il for a few! 1st drop in St Paul in the morn. Those are definitely some cool stories folks. That old Ford, is that a PowerMaster? Not the car, the tractor. Anywho, may the breeze blow you swiftly down the road, we out!

but just browsing the web here I found, for instance, 2 dead and 10 injured during violent weekend in just two counties north of the City of Rio some weeks ago... Then, last Feb/22, nine policemen were shot and 4 died during assaults in the west zone of city of Rio...
Anyway, was reading here about a study showing that New Orleans is the most violent city in the USA with 62 murders by fire gun per 100 thousand inhabitants... Almost as high as Honduras, the most violent country in the world... which has 68 homicides with fire gun per each 100 thousand inhabitants... This same study shows that the city of Rio (which is inside the state of Rio de Janeiro) has about 6,35 million inhabitants and 1,196 murders, 18.8 per 100...
Not sure who conducted this study and not sure how accurate that is...
Another study showed that Brasil has the 11th highest murder rate in the world according to OMS (worldwide health organization). The same study shows the USA in 94th place... Read here...HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thanks this. -
I've only visited São Paulo, so can only speak to that experience. There, I would be more fearful of a crime of opportunity (robbery, and maybe a beating to go with it) than getting killed outright. And that would only be in a case where I was out walking around in an area I should have been smart enough to avoid. No better or worse than any large American city.
Rocks Thanks this. -
For some reason, this topic reminded me of a silly series called Preamar (high tide) we found on HBO a couple years ago. Yeah it was so "good," there was only one season LOL.
It's about a wealthy banker and his family, who live on the beach in Rio. In the beginning, he loses his job and the series follows them getting more and more involved in the street trade going on right in front of his home in order to make ends meet.
It's in Portuguese with subtitles, so maybe not for everyone.HeWhoMustNotBeNamed and Rocks Thank this.
