Looks like I'm getting close to being back on the road finally. I'll call my friends and see about something loading on Monday, as I still have a few minor things to wrap up on this FL Century.

After returning from my uncle's funeral the week of June 14, I had both trucks with sketchy a/c and decided I was going to dig in and get my KW right (only took a few days), then do what it took to restore as many sins of the past in the Century as I could afford to do. Mostly electrical and detail work that never comes out right when hiring someone else to do it. Mind you, this wasn't a month of 14 hr days. This kind of work goes in bursts of a few hours, then some kind of delay. Dozens of trips to the FL dealer, NAPA, Home Depot and Ace Hardware, and so on.

The summary on the Century is: re-wire and repair the HVAC front and rear, new HVAC blowers, ducts in the bunk, re-wire/repair 12V outlets in the bunk, new steering wheel and get city horn connected/working. Upgrade headlight modules (LED markers/DRL and H7/H9 projectors), repair all the broken screws in the visor clearance lights and change them out to LED. Re-wire and change side markers to LED. Whew. I think that was it. I also got a new mattress from Big Rig Mattress to go in there, and ordered another refrigerator-cooler like the one I bought myself at the truck show.

So just a couple of pictures since most of this was scratching my head and trying to read circuit numbers partially worn off of everything.

From the Whisky Tango Foxtrot files, here is the duct that goes in the right rear corner of the cab. The old one on the left. After changing out the HVAC fan back there, I was still getting nearly zero airflow. After some digging around, I thought there was a piece missing down at the HVAC unit and the resulting gap was letting all the airflow blow up in the gap between the upholstery and the cab skin. A couple of tries at Freightliner parts didn't get me anywhere. They had sold a lot of their NOS (new, old stock) parts to some other classic parts place that would have forced me to order from the dealer with who knows what delay and markup. So I go to see what I can scavenge off our old '04 Century and find it's totally different than this '99. As I'm getting ready to head home, I tell my regular shop guy (he has the '04 for scrap) what I didn't find. He says go back out there, I've got a white one about the same year, take what you want. I dig in and just pull all the ducts I can get to and I'm on my way. Here's what I find when I dig the old one out. Like Stonehenge, the Bermuda Triangle, and other mysteries, I briefly ask myself why? That just gets me mad and makes my head hurt, so I just put the new one in and forget about it.

Here's the headlamp module I picked. This truck had already been upgraded to an aftermarket sealed beam, but the bezel, side markers, and DRL were surrounding the nice lights with crap. More botched wiring in those harnesses to shake a stick at. So I opted for a complete bolt in module. Changes the look of the whole truck.

Then at night lit up. I waited just a little too late to take the picture so the glare is more than I wanted. Still makes a huge difference. The LED's and my wiring repairs with shrink wrap terminals and whatnot, will eliminate any further lighting issues for years.

    @RedForeman has a pretty truck.

It's ready for a deer strike or for Swift to back into it or.......USX :biggrin_25521:

Delivered in Dallas 6 hours early and was pleasently surprised to find that our load going home was ready. Hooked and rolling to Chi-Town for a much needed R&R. :hello2:

Will be home this Saturday through next Sunday(July 11th - 19th). Holla if you're coming through.

Don't let the fancy lights deceive you. It's still an old Freighliner. Just probably the only one on the planet that age with everything working.

A deer strike would be the excuse to just quit messing around and order that flat chrome bumper and find a better hood. I think the plastic ones have a few more small impacts left in them.

Back at the DC again. At least the unload went fairly quick this morning.

One thing sure as death and taxes is if I'm here on Friday I'm getting Atlanta or Richmond.

And the winner is.......Atlanta to the rail. I'm betting Quaker back to Charlotte as well coming out of there but we'll see.

Looks like the heartless yard on Friday night for me yet again.

At least the load is ready and I got one. Plenty of grumbling not so happy drivers here waiting on loads to be finished or a load at all. Slow season isn't going to be over quick enough for all of us lol

With 20 minutes left on the clock. I pulled into the Pilot Boonville Mo. To take my 2 hr power and then back on the road again.

Was waiting till I stopped to message the new dispatcher I would be arriving super early for my 7am Monday Denver delivery. But I got a few messages rings on the qual and I could tell by the number of beeps they were one step ahead of me. Drop load in Greeley and pick up 1 going to Hodgkins il for Tuesday.

As I always say the early bird gets the worm. If I was going by the Qualcomm I would still be in Dalton waiting for my 1500 pick up. Getter done!! I'm gone!!

Good looking Century, Red ! I had one of those as the first Truck I ever had and I personally always have liked the way those look. Glad you got it spiffed up and fixed up. They fixed the doors on the one you've got but the ones from back in ( 98 ? 97 ? ) would always pop the lock open if you gave it a solid whack just behind the outside latch on the Driver's door. After my Trainer showed me that little trick, I did it all the time. Kinda made me feel like Fonzie at the Jukebox or the Pinball machine. Yeah, I know I ain't cool like Fonzie, but it sure was handy not having to fumble with keys when your hands were full. Seriously, I think those Century's look sharp !

Great job Mr. Red... truck looks sharp... :biggrin_25519:
Ahhh... I remember the Columbias... I loved those with roof windows so I could see the moon shining inside the cab at night... :biggrin_25520:
What about that frame folks use in front of the bumper? I heard those flat chrome bumpers get damaged if truck needs to be towed...
