    Ok... here I am now..

Break room in my company... To the left is the dispatchers' room... and their boss. It's really nice to be able to talk to them and see them working hard to keep us drivers running... :biggrin_25519:
Truck is in the shop... Had those orange engine lights on yesterday... and although they went out as I entered the terminal yard gate this morning, the mechanic said engine is getting too hot and decided to take truck to Freightliner nearby...
I was kinda "predicting" something like that.... So, I had all my things sorted and ready just in case I have to sleep in a hotel tonight... Brought my cooler with me here... :yes2557:

And then... Mr. So and So from upper management asked me to go see Mr. Vice President... :biggrin_2556: Oh-oh... what did I do now??? :biggrin_25524:
We both entered Mr. VP's room and I was nervous...
Mr. VP told me that I am the top mpg driver in the company... :biggrin_2554: Making 7.8 mpg... some drivers are barely making 7... :biggrin_2552: And these are experienced drivers with over 30 yrs experience... and their trucks are brand new, able to make about 8 mpg... :biggrin_2554:

So... Mr. VP wanted to ask ME what I have been doing to get these "great" mpg... Oh my... :biggrin_2554:
And I said... You know, this is very "weird".... I think there might be a problem with the truck... :biggrin_25523: Because I don't do everything folks say I'm supposed to do to save fuel... I almost never use cruiser control, :biggrin_25512: don't do much progressive shifting...:biggrin_25512: But I did tell them how I drive and they liked what they heard... :yes2557:
I think the idle time is the reason why my mpg are the best... Although all trucks have APU's, some drivers still keep engine running when parked for whatever reason... Maybe some drivers are "stuck" in their "old" ways...
Not very long ago we had to replace the starter in "my" truck because sooooo many times I turn engine on and off every time I step out of the truck for whatever reason, slide the tandems, do an inspection, etc...
So... Mr. VP asked what I thought about giving "an incentive" to drivers who make more mpg... Such as, raise their speed a couple miles if they keep their mpg above 7 something.. And I told them that's a GREAT IDEA!!! :yes2557: I thought about Mr. PackRat... Doesn't his company use that tactic with those who don't go over a certain idle percentage? :biggrin_25519:

And I was hearing the conversation among dispatchers here... One of them was complaining to the others... saying, tell them there's no load out there... He said, "thanks to Schnieder, this and that mega carrier, we lost the loads...":biggrin_25510:
I asked him what he meant... He said that these mega carriers can afford pulling loads for less money and we are left with nothing... :biggrin_2552: Lately our miles have dropped... Mr. VP was saying the same thing about less loads... Not only railroad but also mega carriers ruining for the small OTR carriers like us... :biggrin_2557:

And.... as I "predicted" last night, I will have to go to the hotel across the street cause Freightliner will not have the truck ready till tomorrow... So, now I gotta borrow company's car here and rush to Walmart to buy some frozen dinner (cause I didn't feel like cooking anything yesterday) and then go check in the hotel...

After tocos from the stand across the street from the TA in Corning, CA will head toward Fresno, morning Drop.

Waving toward Sac as I pass. IIRC PackRat is there.

And then after drop swinging into the home 20 for an overnight before the slow mosey to FLA.
Load pays at what I consider a back haul rate $2 per mile. Gots to find some real paying loads and get myself home to the descent freight ASAP.

I'm used to $3.50 to $4.00 north and about $2 south.

    Petro in Scranton.

That was fun. Well, not really lol haven't been up this way in a few weeks so I'm looking for 178b coming north to get off to the petro. pouring rain and 1730 traffic with 41 minutes left and guess what? It doesn't exist anymore. It's just 178 now with a stupid roundabout at the top. The instant I was committed and passed it I saw the sign for the roundabout and as I went by saw both the old northbound 178B on/off ramps had been ripped up

Doh. Now gotta get turned around on the fly in the rain and crawling traffic with a short clock. After planning well and doing 78/287/95/91/84 with almost no delay this morning up and back almost blew my clock over an exit that isn't there anymore.

Pulled the brakes with 8 minutes left.

Headed up to Syracuse with the standard backhaul out of there. Go load bottles in Elmira back down to fogelsville.

Sitting at the Federal Mogul plant in Glasgow, Ky in front of the gate.

They don't receive after 3 and they didn't expect me till the morning, so I hurried my ### for nothing.

Well, if your old school then you know that MPG is all in the right foot. Cruise control is a joke if there is the slightest grade. You can see the road and adjust for grades and traffic cruise cannot, also again progressive shifting is basically to keep from over reaving the engine it limits the RPM's yet something else a seasoned driver would not run into or need. Great job!
