Amarillo, Kinda cool running 40 after taking a few months away.

Still would rather be on 5 running good paying freight. Aint found nothing yet to get me even toward home that pays enough to also cover DH.

Well, I'm off and running. I threw a 2000 ft-lb clutch in her this time around.

I did a direct shipper run, that brought me up to auburn, wa. Then persuaded by a broker to drive out to Denver.

I'm sitting in troutedale, OR -----> with a 48k load. I'm gonna test that clutch on Cabbage Sat.

So since I parked the Pete to go to the Oregon country fair. The truck puked out the clutch. Which gave the disease to my wife's car. That's gonna be another cost. Not bad. Take 10_days off, see the bill for repairs top $ 4,500.

I need a sign and a cup...... Maybe the off ramp on i-84 by biggs-junction will be profitable. I'll slip @Cranky Yankee some smokes, for a cup of diesel.

I guess I'm an exception to you all... I'm not out here for the money... :biggrin_25512:
I have written so many times in this forum, I'm out here because I love living like I gipsy, on the road and constantly moving around...
I could be making good money had I insisted in growing my cleaning business... But that wasn't my passion... I hated many things about it... Was looking for something else to do when a former girl friend suggested trucking... She knew my love for the road, as we hitchhiked together in Brasil selling our merchandise in the 80's.... She became a truck driver in America 8 yrs before me.
I became very curious and decided to try... I didn't need money... Had my own business doing well... Had enough savings to keep me for at least one year...
While in CDL school I became even more interested and curious... And the more challenges I went thru, the more I wanted to pursue this... :yes2557:
My first trainer in my first company was a veteran driver with 30+ yrs experience. When I told him that I was very excited about this job and that it reminded me of my hitchhiking days and my passion for living on the road... His answer was, "Hey, this is not a wild party! It's a serious job." :angry1:

Ohhhh... EXCUSE ME, Mr. 30 + yrs experienced driver... :biggrin_2554: I KNOW VERY WELL THIS IS A SERIOUS JOB.. And I take it VERY SERIOUSLY indeed.... as almost everything in my life.... But I like it... And I would do it for free if I could... :biggrin_25523:
Thank God I have no kids and no husband and no family and no house to support... Only me, myself and I... :yes2557:

I don't know if I'll do this forever though... cause with most of everything in my life, I do what I like till I don't like it anymore and then I find something else to do... Besides, with all the freaking regulations and technology in the trucks nowadays, the FUN has been immensely reduced, I can only assume... I say assume cause I haven't been trucking in America in the 80's or even 90's... But when I quit trucking, these things will be some of the reasons...
Oh... BTW, "lifestyle"? Trucking lifestyle? I'm not sure what folks mean by that... :biggrin_25512: I tend not to adhere to any lifestyle.. other than my own... :yes2557:

Hey Rock, I don't know what is forcing me back to OTR, but I feel that's what I have to do now. I miss the life (crazy I know). I want to use the time out there to find a place to retire that I can afford. It's not new jersey for sure.

You got that right!. I can't wait to get started.. oh yeah. I am starting this week. next saturday I'm flying to Green Bay to start with WEL Co.s The truck will be our home from now on. Life on the road with no agenda, or reason to get anywhere for anything or anybody.

I feel the same way!! I just sold a very successful window cleaning business and I'm not going out here for the$$$. I am debt free and no expenses , so I can enjoy the life without the pressure of financial burdens. Yeah, it's hard work, and serious stuff, but it can be a lot of fun Too!! I left trucking to do something else for awhile, and now I'm coming back because I want to , not because I have to. If it stops being fun I'll do the next thing… freedom baby!!!

You two brought up some good points. Brought back to me why I did it. Enjoyed the freedom and open roads. Seeing places and meeting people I'd probably never see or meet. Took the job serious, life not so much. Then I just got burnt out. Got out of the otr driving and doing what I am now.

    Yeah!!! :biggrin_25519:

I don't know how trucking in America used to be before I started almost 8 yrs ago.... but nowadays, with all the regulations, HOS, elogs, etc, etc... there's not much freedom... :biggrin_25513:
So, when you "say" freedom, I interpret that as "freedom to do what you want and when you want"... Even if that means, trucking for a while... :biggrin_2559:
