I love my lane diversion and front radar systems. I can get up to get a drink now and then.

Yesterday went better than expected and got loaded 6 hours early. So home for a few hours then a short run to Publix to deliver this afternoon. This quarter I've been lazy with the fuel taxes, so in true form will get to that tomorrow. After all there's a whole nuther week left before the end of the month.

Yesterday as I was driving down TN-111 toward Chattanooga, a NB driver mentioned on the radio a big truck had used the runaway ramp right before the merge with US-27, but no responders were there yet. That was about 15 miles out, so by the time I passed by, about a half dozen police cars were already there.

I always wondered about that one. It's about 2/3 of the way down a pretty easy 6% grade. Not all that remarkable, except you have to deal with two 8% grades on the way there. The second one is downhill and has some tight turns. Neither one has any runaway ramps, just mountain on one side and a drop off on the other. So I always wondered who would ever need to take that runaway after managing to not drive off the mountain on the worse stuff beforehand. Well, there he was, axle deep in the gravel pit.

I run through there often. I never understood why there wasn't any ramps on the 8% but there is on the 6

There is enough time from the time you get off the 8% that your brakes should be cool by the time you get to the top of the 6%.
Chances are if he was in the gravel he got a ticket

    Rocks and RedForeman Thank this.

Could be anything. That's why I hate to judge. On the other hand, I go thru there often and am the one slow rolling downhill with my flashers on using nothing but jakes while plenty of big trucks are coming around me with their brakes smoking. More likely, he is a local driver and was too comfortable operating at the edge of his equipment's capabilities. Until that trip.
