hehehe well when you put it that way then yeah I rush everywhere lol

That comes from having a routine. Doing everything the same way every time and combining steps into the same process where possible. An example would be combining checking securement, seal and load numbers and sliding the tandems/doing underside checks all in the same 3 trips around the truck to check left/right signals and brake lights. Hit the left signal and check down that side and pull the pin on the way down, get in and slide/lock and verify on the way back around to the right side checking securement/load/seal as you're on the way around and checking underside on each side as you go. It does breed efficiency and productivity in many cases. No corners get cut, nothing is missed, and it doesn't require extra trips in and out of or around the truck. The key is to develop and do not deviate from the routine. Over time as you do it it becomes second nature and that in turn brings the efficiency.

Any time I've ever missed anything it's because I deviated from that routine and didn't do it the same way for some reason.

Planning, backing, routing, every aspect of the job I approach with the same eye to efficiency and standardization in procedure. A few extra minutes spent in one area can save 10-20 minutes somewhere else.

Thanks Rocks!! yeah, last week was all about moving out the apartment and getting rid of stuff. I'm so glad that's over. My new digs will be much easier (my truck) to take care of.

I came into the lounge to chill out with the free wifi and air conditioning. They're watching a NASCAR race. You'd think truck drivers would get enough of watching cars tailgating each other at insane speeds just from being on the road.

Why drag that cooler? Cause my food is in it... I try not to have much when I go for "hometime"... but it doesn't always work like that... the extended stay hotel has a full size refrigerator... I need room to store all the vegetables and legumes, etc, etc...

It's a learning process you develop and refine over the long term specific to the way you drive and company procedures and loads.

It takes trail and error to find what works best and steps you can incorporate together into one without missing anything in the process for your specific style of driving/loads/company requirements.

In the above example I gave.....I've watched guys do 6+ trips around the truck to accomplish the same steps I did in 3. Gotta work smart not hard.
