I used to keep the 5th wheel in the trucks I drove in my former company right in the middle of the drive axle... had to adjust that only a couple times to make all the axles legal...
But in my actual company, the 5th wheel is almost all the way to the back... which makes the truck a little longer, it gives more space between the trailer and the tractor. I tried to move it once but it was stuck and maintenance boss told me not to move it at all or it would make the steer axle non compliant.. which I don't agree.. but it's their truck and their rules.... I will just not haul any load if I can't make the axles legal due to 5th wheel being stuck...HeWhoMustNotBeNamed, TruckDuo and Dinomite Thank this. -

I keep my 5th wheel on the 3rd or 4th slot from the front.

Greensboro, NC service center for a 6am unload 5 miles from here, then off to a dropyard 20 minutes from here to drop and hook to a load delivering in Tennessee tomorrow.
