figure out where you want to run. if you want to run 48, regional mainly within 38 states or so, dedicated. when you figure that out do you know what kind of truck you would like to drive and how many gears that truck have. only go to paid orientations at least $75 a day. how much do you want to get paid by the mile is the key. most weeks you may average 2000-3000 a week add it up. I say go where the money. some companies don't pay new drivers much. never opt out per diem its to your benefit. don't really worry about where orientations is at. If you stay on a main lane(interstate) its a good chance you will pass by your home more often or than not. look at where you live and the company you are considering is based out of. just know if you run 48 its a requirement to have chains on your truck after a certain point in year. if you don't want to deal with chains go with a regional company, dedicated. if you want straight answers from recruiters(sometime lies) you have to know what kind of questions to ask. make sure the company you look at don't focus on leasing but if you want to lease its all gravy. you may go thru a couple of companies till you find one that fit to what u are looking for. make sure you stay at least 3-6 months nothing less than that because trucking companies frown on unstable work history. best thing if you want to switch companies talk to that company tell them why unhappy with present company. get hired on with that company first then put in week, 2 week notice with present company. that way they want have chance to screw you ova on your DAC. NEVER QUIT A JOB TILL YOU HAVE ANOTHER ONE LINED UP!!

Hi Missjhawk: I've been at this for about 7.5yrs now... As for your suggestions running 48 or regional is not a big deal these days. It is more important that this driver know if he will be pulling vans or reefer units. Skipping forward in your summary; I have a complete Driver Questionnaire that would make you smile with joy! This questionnaire has been in development since I got started in trucking back in 2004. Saw the B.S. then.... The purpose of my OP (original posting) was not to be lectured to; but to get other drivers "2ND OPINION", as to their own personal exp with mentioned companies. Hong Kong I find to be quite expensive: Shenzen would be more to my liking and a more strategically geographic setting. But Guangzhou has now grown on me. I run the streets there like a lifetime resident. Got the metro train system all figured out.. even with my non existent Mandarin or Cantonese; give it to me in Pin Yin, and I'll pull a rabbit out my hat

If you have a clean record and meet the minimum requirments, try Wal~mart. They have On-Guard/Wingman systems on their newer trucks but you get used to them. Over all on your other choices De Boir sounds ok to me, I did look them up a while back. My turn off for them was the automatic trucks. RICH logistics I know of and they get alot of work from the valley. Wal~mart hauls as a third party from Laredo to Irving. Orientation times are a bit short, but I expect that from general freight carriers. Yes, what are these companies offering for cpm? benefits? Home time? DO NOT GO FOR PER DIEM! Its a rip off and can mess your taxes up especially in Texas if you have farm land. Either way, good luck and hope this helps.

Hi drozzer69, According to the Recruiter at deBoer, they have a mix of automatics and 8-13 speeds and 10speeds: I would still re-confirm this prior to my signing on. Thanks for the heads up!

Cutting right to the chase! I have been going thru the process of Elimination for over 3 weeks now. Here is what I have; I accept/expect feedback!
Top of my deck is- #1 de Boer they have a 3day orientation in TX; seem to be ok. 2nd Big M has 1.5day orien-3rd Venture Logistics -4th Nussbaum and -5th RICH Logistics (Except for de Boer, I'm still waiting on the other company recruiters to reply to me!).

I had Bay & Bay in 6th place;they hold a 3day orien in MN; but this company forces Per Diem on it's Drivers and U can not Opt Out and they will soon start using Lane/Speed Distance Detectors on all of their trucks. So, they are out of the equation.

In 7th sits DHT (Danny Hermann): 3day orien in El Paso TX: I have to confirm their Per Diem Policy and they do not allow personal CB's, I think company supplies CB radio/antennas-you cannot use your own!

Bottom of the Barrel lies:
8th is P.A.M. btw you can Opt Out of Per Diem, but I still do not know it they still charge the admin fee; There are no other Parent Company(s) or Ownership! Orientation 3day-in Irving TX.
9th is Celadon whom still force dispatches to Canada & NYC. Trucks top speed (Company Driver=me!) is a whoppping 62mph!!! OH! And Sadly, I had a difficult time getting one recruiter to answer questions so I went through the back door to get a different recruiter who was friendlier! AND LAST,
10TH sits the Great ARNOLD Transport: a. was very difficult to get direct answers from this recruiter b. can OPT Out of Per Diem, but must confirm as above
c. Parent Company happens to be US Express! d. Orientation is 2.5 days in Grand Prairie TX...*Company Drivers with any information to add or correct please respond. The number of companies being taken over by the super large outfits is crazy. And they all seem to operate within the same scope to keep the driver pretty much on edge and trapped. You really have to Brainwash/"SIKE" yourself out to drive big trucks period. Thanks!

lol put this on your questionnaire if you say you got all that experience why do u sound like a rookie. check yes I sound like a rookie. only a rookie would have a dilemma like the above post. really dude 10 companies wtf. you claim you have all but 7.5 years within that time period you should no how to pick an employer. it was said if you don't have anything nice to say don't say nothing bout yo list of 10 companies you cant choose from WOW!

Since you live in texas try poly trucking in grand Prairie .. .48 cpm for all drivers .. no forced dispatch but they do have a $59 per day perdium..

I see at least 8 I wouldn't touch with a 10 ft. pole. I would have to agree on Poly. There's a thread on them with lots of useful info.
