These are explainable situations when it comes to a suspension.
I too live in Ohio, and those can be a pain. However you need to get them in when the ODPS asks for it. Frankly, after having a personal vehicle totaled by a driver with no insurance; I can see why Ohio is doing it- it's an issue here.
When you're filling out applications, and they ask specifically if you're license has been suspended, explain in correct detail about how and why your license was suspended. Be prepared to have documentation to corroborate this.
It shouldn't stop you from getting a CDL from Ohio, so long as you've paid up all your reinstatement fees (and I heard they're also refusing reinstatement for back child support now, too, even if your license was suspended for failure to furnish proof of minimum liability.)
EDIT- GET INSURANCE, YO. -
You fall to maintain insurance shows any company that you are at higher risk. Due to oversight or just letting it run out speaks volumes to any company. The company's insurance will not allow a high risk driver... so in a word or two - probably not.
You will classified as an SR-22.
SR-22 is not a type of insurance. Some people mistakenly refer to SR-22 as a type of insurance, but it isnt. An SR-22 insurance is simply a form that an insurance company files with the state to verify that an individual has met the minimum financial responsibility requirements. Typically, a court or state will require an SR-22 for individuals who have had serious driving related violations. -
I'm not even sure they will clear you to get a commercial license, but if you're able to, some company will look past it. However, truck driving has a hell of a lot more paperwork than copying your insurance card and mailing it to Columbus. There's also a lot of responsibility in being a truck driver. If you've made the choice to drive without insurance that many times, you may not be mature enough or responsible enough to drive an 80,000 pound missile down the road.
cabwrecker Thanks this. -
I had a license suspension for FTP. I had no trouble finding a job. Just be honest in the box where it asks about suspensions. In most cases (this being one of them) honesty will get you a lot further.

Failure to show proof is not a big deal provided you had insurance at the time. If you later prove you had insurance then you will not have a problem. If you drove without insurance, you don't have a chance of getting hired for at least 3 years.
In Missouri we all have to have uninsured motorist coverage. That does not cover our vehicle if we are hit. It only pays the doctors who work on us during the emergency. -
I do have sr-22. My first suspension was in spring 2012. My second suspension was in summer 2013. Both times I didn't have insurance. How long should I wait before I try to get a cdl? or should I wait?

There's companies that will hire you if you complete a private or community college CDL school.
Limited choices, but you will be employed and making a living. -
What a ripoff ! Uninsured motorist coverage is not required in TX and the carriers want you to believe if an uninsured motorist plows into you....no coverage. I asked the bank and a mouthpiece bout this and they both said nay...... bank said they contracted to cover the vehicle....it gets crunched, it's covered...all done.
Mouth piece said all it does is drop deductible from what you carry to $250 on crunch and medical.
Both said you have problem and carrier balks, come see us. ( Lawyer works for credit union, a free service and credit union holds notes )
