    Hopefully, you understand that Hireright is ONLY an information aggregating company. They only aggregate information already contained by the carriers themselves that have been transmitted to them. A prospective new carrier is still legally bound by part 391 subpart C to get the same information that Hireright has. The carrier is either going to use Hireright or another company that does this OR have people assigned to do these background checks MANDATED by part 391.

    My point being the FMCSA mandates these checks be made. You are mandated to list up to the last 10 years of driving jobs that require a CDL. If you were fired for some reason, avoiding a carrier that uses DAC is not going to help you avoid the rules set out in part 391. ANYBODY that tells you otherwise is just blowing sunshine up your butt!

    Big brother is out there and you can't avoid it today.

    They have these things called mirrors ….

    Seriously though they do make wireless cameras . If you gotta back up in a tight spot , you can mount the camera on the side or back of the trailer and watch it from a screen inside the cab

    or you can get out and look .

    Oh sure. I'm not naive about that. But for whatever reason, DAC in particular has the reputation that a bunch of petty stuff that didn't legally require reporting winds up in their database. Almost like carrier vendetta items that make it difficult to get hired by other carriers. DAC is like a megacarrier gossip magazine.

    Again, the carrier would report them if DAC existed or not.....Here is what is legally required...
    7. A list of all motor vehicle accidents in which the applicant was involved during the 3 years preceding the date the application is submitted, specifying the date and nature of each accident and any fatalities or personal injuries it caused;

    Note it doesn't say DOT reportable, it says all accidents. Even the feel good word of "incident", which is just a feel good word to make the wreck seem less severe is an accident that must be reported to a new employer.

    I totally get what you're saying. But for whatever reason I've heard DAC gets some real ######## in their reports. Gossip level stuff.

    There are a lot of myths out there about Hireright/dac. As I stated it is just an aggregate place that stores information. Also over 90% of the time all a carrier actually gets is the "summary page" this has dates worked, the reason for leaving, and finally, rehire status. This summary should be what is contained in the carrier's records as well. This is why it is critical that all drivers get a copy of their DAC's at least every other year, and especially if they have changed jobs in the last 6 to 12 months. If the summary page has something that concerns the new carrier they will contact the old carrier and get more info from them. There is no real reason to fear DAC, but just as with all databases, you should stay proactive to make sure the information is right.

    Many years ago I discovered a Bankruptcy Court Clerk had flipped some numbers and reported MY Social Security Number as having a discharged Chapter 7. It took me almost a year to get that fixed and I had to hire an Attorney. Thankfully I was not carrying any balances on my Credit Cards.

    It's up to the company to determine if an incident is worth listing. I bent a hood mirror at my local company and they just told me to take it to the shop and they will take care of it. Nothing on is on my DAC. Nothing on my personal file. I also did not report any prior incident to my current employer and had no problem getting hired.

    Maybe I have a skewed idea of DAC and Hireright, but I've really never heard anything good about them. I'll do some research, but it IS interesting that they have a predominantly negative reputation.
