I have a 2001 western star and the gauges in the dash stopped working.

The way to test the databus feed quick would be to plug it into a scanner at the gray plug under the dash. That will tell you if the info is getting to that side if the firewall.

Yes the cruise works. I don't have a scan tool to test and the local dealer said they would have the truck for a minimum of 4 days. Not like that's going to happen maybe as a last resort.

Any shop that can plug into your truck will help you immensely. What engine? How about a fleetpride, or a truck stop, engine manufacturer shop, "Bobs Diesel Service"? Its just to see if the data is getting to the plug. The plug is fed from the same two databus wires that feed the ECC and the DataStar.

In this case it would mean you lost power to the ECC and all of the inside items would not work. That usually is a dead giveaway.

The truck has a 6NZ cat. There is a local guy that works at cat who is going to hook it up tomorrow. I will pass the info that you have given me on to him. I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks for all your knowledge and help.
