Certified in law enforcement? What TYPE of certification and by whom with a DRIVING record like that? If you mean some 3 hr. correspondence course in how to be a security guard @ the mall...thats not considered being certified in law enforcement. If you mean POST certification.....I don't believe you could find anyone who would take a stupid risk with an officer who is so "recently immature" and put them through an academy. Good luck.

Over the yrs I read many threads with people having bad mvrs but this one tops them all.Having a careless charge is bad, real bad,but 3????????????????.I'm surprised Werner is willing to give you a chance. But if they are you better jump at the chance.Beggers can't be choosers.

Go with Werner, stay there at least 3 years, with NO tickets, accidents, incidents, etc, and then you probably have a good chance to move to a better company.

That's the ONLY way I see this working.

Can't change the past, keep your MVR clean from here on. Not everybody's meant to be a trucked, but a clean driving record helps. Start obeying the law ALL THE TIME, not just when you think someone's looking or you might get caught. That'll help your chances of getting a job, even if it isn't in trucking. BTW, even if it's legal where you live, recreational marajuana probably isn't a good idea.

Well some people are reading too much into it so werner only pulls a 3 year MVR, crst does 3 years on moving violations and 5 on accidents, prime does 3 years (3 violations for non cdl holder and 4 for a recent graduate with cdl), swift surprisingly requested 10 years (I'm sure they won't hire me till about mid to late 2014 when a few things come off 10 year MVR.)

It is interesting how I posted years that all the violations happened the first two careless citations were in 2004 9 years ago ok so what I have seat belt citations in Florida they are a primary offense but a non moving violation(you do the math there he can pull you over for just the seat belt but it's not a moving violation???) so those ones don't even count against me the citation for 30 MPH over is 10 years old as of next month so it will disappear soon. That leaves one careless from 5 years ago which the cop didn't want to take a uniformed correctional officer to jail so he wrote me a careless ticket (i was riding a crotch rocket doing stupid things I sold the bike a week later and took a driver improvement course) I got a ticket for running 84 in a 70(14 mph) in Madison County fl on I-10 in 2008 and an accident in 2010 so my 5 year MVR has only 2 moving violations and 3 seat belt violations and an accident.

I am a certified correctional officer sergeant at florida state prison I have taken the crossover courses and state exam to be a police officer and passed but I'm to the point in my life I am tired of the losers I watch 44 hours a week and don't think I want to ride in a car all day writing tickets for things that I myself have done in the past.

The biggest factor that helped me realize I was screwing up was when my ex wife left with my daughter I realized that if I kill myself or someone else from me doing something stupid I may not ever get to see her again.

I'm really not butt hurt but the first few responses weren't positive or helpful at all I didn't come here to get bashed for my immaturity almost 10 years ago when I was barely 18-19. I didn't come here to whine about low pay or bash any companies.

I came here looking for suggestions on places that might employ me.

I did make a statement about werner having low pay which is true they wanna give me $0.26 CPM where as prime will do $0.36 CPM for a recent graduate and $0.41 for a year experience. (prime won't give me a pre hire till I actually have cdl in hand)

So yes I screwed up along time ago but I am turning over a new leaf and want to go forward I am kind of scared to work for werner after all the bad I have read about them I just want to make an informed decision and will stick to it for a year afterwards until I can find better employment (like Davis trucking company in starke fl about 10 miles from home they want fairly clean 5 year MVR and 12 months OTR experience pay is $0.43 CPM and its regional home every other weekend)

I started in '91 with a bad mvr a very young adult who liked to speed excessively but with 4 millions drivers in the US alone there are plenty of jobs out there for every type of driver. Get your cdl and just dony be picky on the type of job you get and slowly straighten up your mvr and you will be ok.

All joking aside, I know you are tuning over a new leaf, which is good and responsible. I wish you luck and hope it works out for you. Unfortunately, with YOUR history and record, you are in a position to where not many people are going to take you at your word. You're going to have to SHOW them that you are responsible enough to move on from what at first glance looks like a punk raising hell to a responsible adult who takes pride in his actions and how they affect those around him. I'm not saying people think you a punk, in saying people (or companies) look at your record and it LOOKS like you are a punk. An earlier poster talked about insurance and that's what it comes down to for the majority of folks. If you look like a risk, then you probably are. You're in corrections, so look at it like being being released on parole or probation. They trust you to some extent but not really.

Your reality is that you are going to have to bite the bullet and work for a horrible, horrible company like Werner or CR England to prove that you are mature enough to make this work. You dont have to prove anything to a certain company, mind you. You have to prove something to trucking in general. Put in a couple of years without incident, and you shouldn't having a problem finding a better company.

    good luck to you.

I had a careless driving and 5mph over on my mvr when i started. If you could try central refrigerated services, that is where i obtained my cdl through thier school and spent almost 2 years at. I made the mistake of leasing. If i hadnt done that, who knows.. I may still be there. Ill give you a few companies to try.

    Central refrigerated services
    May trucking
    Us express
    Pride transport
    Star transport

Florida makes it hard for a experienced driver, let alone a newbie. I wish ya the best of luck and if i can help in any way, let me know!!
