For the last 15 years I've had a CDL A, but the small dump trucks and trailors I've been driving are nothing like the large semi's except in length and combined weight (of dump truck and trailor). I was trained on a dump truck with a GVR of 12,500 lbs with a trailor of 14,000 GVR. I have not even driven a split shift in nearly 12 years.

What would be my best coarse of action to get a regular OTR trucking job?

Most of the larger companies will require a refresher course. Check around because some of the smaller companies might hire you. Your best course of action is to figure out what companies you want to aplly to and see what they require.

Find a O/O that will train you and put you in one of his trucks for a year.

Apply at some companies that you'd consider working for and take it from there. Won't know until you ask (apply).

One misspelled word and the poor guy gets attacked by a newbie to the forum with 9 posts...next thing you know he will want to join the Hijack Club and strive for the top hijackers spot. Silly boy!

Then again, perhaps the use of "coarse" instead of "course" wasn't a mistake. The last recruiter I dealt with was rather "coarse" with me so I returned the favor and was "curse" with her! And the OP's thought of getting back into long-haul could be considered a "coarse" "course" to take after being home on a regular schedule. Of "course" it could be a mistake if he were using the error as a recourse to any financial need or any such thing as just having a job to do!:biggrin_25514: :biggrin_2559:

    Hey Xvet- Welcome to TTR!!
Just ignore the hijack comments and spelling comments from the peanut gallery- you have to hang out here awhile to get the warped sense of humor on this forum!! It is all meant in good fun! You should get some serious answers (sorry I can't help there) but again Welcome!!

Was this needed from someone who clearly is not a English major? Your statement is four words long and contains at least three (3) errors.
