But I really don't want to pay for a driving school to go over the road. I have plenty of experience thru the military and my civillian job. Are there any companies that will hire and do OJT without having to spend thousands of dollars at a school?
I have a Class A Cdl

If you already have your CDL A, then why would you think that you would need to attend a school?
A little bit more information, please:
How long have you had your CDL A? How much actual driving experience do you have? What kind of trucks have you driven? How many trucking companies have you worked for?
Thanks. Hopefully we can help -
A lot of companies want recent OTR or school experience before they will hire a driver.
I had two students in my CDL class last summer that already had a class A CDL, but couldn't get a job without a "recert" from a school.
They both had extensive OTR experience but had been out of the game for several years.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
Well I've had my cdl for 9 years now. Most of my driving experience is in the Military and I have driven straight trucks in the past. (I should have stated National Guard and Navy reserves on the military part.) Anyways, I currently drive an 11 yard mixer truck and have been doing so for a about 5 years. Spent the last year in Iraq driving HET's. I just don't want to have to take the money away from my family and their needs to attend a school to do what I already know how to do. If that makes any sense.

You'll not have much luck finding OTR companies accept your military experience. Thank you for your service brother! Fellow OIF Vet here. As for OJT companies for OTR I don't know man as I'm just now getting in the game and I need school, check Prime though I think they have an OJT deal without school and possibly Watkins-Shepard ? Knight/Squire too possibly. Swift possibly but they are mostly a newbie company from what I gather. That's who I'm going with for my training. Good luck!

thanks for your service also. I called Knight/Squire and they said what I did oversea's doesn't matter and won't count to my experience. They were nice about how they put it though. I checked into Prime and they sound ok, but I just don't trust it for some reason. When do you start with Swift? Thanks for your advice

I would suggest, since you live in AZ, that you try driving Coach Tour Buses.
I have a friend,in AZ,that drives musicians to and from their appointments. He gets paid very well and has many perks and benefits with the job.
Try a yellowpage.com search for your area.
Best of Luck!!!!!!!! -

There are several companies that will accept you military service and experience, they would be crazy not too. Several have M ilitary Only recruiters, so Keep looking. There also many smaller companies that will accept your experience. I am sorry I cant be more helpful. I have been retired from the Army for 16 years now, drove in the Army for 22. Walked into a job the day I retired.
Thank you for your service,

Have you spoken with your VA Rep at your local Employment Security Commission (ESC), Career Source or Workforce Center?
GI Bill,Funding should be available for you.
If you are unemployed, underemployed or displaced worker, then you could also qualify for the WIA program.
Best of Luck!!!
