I've been lurking in these forums for a couple of weeks and all I can say is the I really wish I had found this site 10 years ago before I started working for Swift. It may have saved me lots of hassle. I have been looking at a lot of the long threads and I learned a bunch. One thing it did, for sure, is light a fire in me to start driving truck again.
So, my first question is: I was fired from Swift for preventable accidents about 9 years ago. If I try and go through training again with a company that trains and hires, will that prevent me from being hired? I was thinking about Central Refrigerated. I just ordered a copy of my DAC to see what's on there.
Second, after Swift I worked for three companies. I drove a stake bed for a refrigeration company, I drove cab, and I worked for a painting company. My last real job was about seven years ago. Since then, I've been working for my dad in his painting company for room and board. I notice that the companies are real strict about work history. Could I get written statements from customers and contractors that we've worked for as proof of what I've been doing with that last seven years? I often wonder how housewives who have never worked ever break into the industry.
Another question, I've read that all employment history drops off of your DAC after 10 years. I have about 16 months until my ten year mark. If Swift will prevent me from being able to restart right now, if I wait until 2012, will that no longer be a problem?
Driving really got in my blood and I was highly depressed after getting fired from Swift. I reported one backing accident that many drivers told me I shouldn't have reported and it counted toward me getting fired. It was a trailer scrape on a yellow cement guide post. I've gone over my mistakes over and over again, and I believe that I'm 10 years older, 10 years wiser, and that I would benefit greatly from going back through school and out with a trainer again.
TIA
I have a couple of questions

you should do quite well after you go through all new training. as you say, you are 10 years OLDER & WISER.........and IF the school you go to has a "defensive driver class" take it........even IF there is an extra charge..........otherwise, it should be included in the over all cost.........make sure you ATTEND school EACH & EVERYDAY.
good luck to you.

Central Refrigerated is a sister company of Swift. If you were fired from Swift Central is not going to re-hire you. Also Central's hiring requirements are more strict than Swift. I think you time frame for preventable's is only 3-5 years. Since you have been gone from the industry for so long you will probably need a refresher course and at the very least you will probably have to go with a trainer for a short period of time. Overall you shouldn't have a problem getting hired on with a company other than Swift and Central. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't realize that Central was a sister company of Swift. Saved me from blundering into a dead end.
I was gone so long from trucking because I thought there was no way in hell anybody would hire me. I was told that small preventable accidents in your first year blackball you from the industry for the life of your dac report, 10 years, and it was best to just wait it out. I've just come up close to the 10 year mark and started looking into it again.
Thank you again for the responses. Gives me some hope.
I've only been fired from two jobs in my life, and the only job I was depressed about losing was the trucking job. -
