I hope this is not an answer I could of easily found on my own.
Me; 51 healthy, single last kid headed off to college.
I have my CDL,I have a spotless background both professionally and personally.
I have very limited driving experience, BUT I am a very safe and conscience driver
I worked for Werner for 4+ months. 2010. It was ok.
I had a brand new truck, which was great. And ok dispatch.
Training was terrible, but I guess it is for many. I drove great, lots of trips across
the country and into Canada. But my family situation, crumbled quickly and I had to quit.
Now soon it will be just me. I'm thinking of selling my house and hitting the road.
My question; If there is a state that bests suits the home state for a driver? I dont think NY is.
And that is where I live now. I have no issue relocating. Of course, it can be argued that
the state where the company that I want to work for is. And maybe a valid point. I think ultimately
I would like if I found a state that I would resettle in. But for now my truck would be my home.
It seems a bit confusing...but, find the company first and make that my home residence seems the most logical.
I have a different situation? maybe

It probably depends on who you end up working for, but I would think that logically the closer to the center of the country you are the more options you would have.................
-
Look at a map. Anywhere several interstates converge is going to have a decent amount of driving opportunities....especially where heavily traveled north/South lanes meet heavily traveled East/West lanes. Major urban areas are also going to have a lot of driving opportunities...with a lot of local options available, too. If you want to live away from the urban setting...if rural living is more your style...you can find a spot a few miles off of a major travel lane through the middle of nowhere and hire on with pretty much anyone traveling that lane.
That's the nice thing about this job....don't matter WHERE you live, trucks are everywhere. -
hey thanks! see that is so funny, very simple answers that I would not have thought of. I will do my research starting with those thoughts.
Thank you -
look towards the I-80/I-70 corridor for trucking jobs, and places to live.
mid-west is about the best, wish i were there. -
Ohio, indiana, Ill, Missouri seem to be the center of the freight lanes.
-
Pick a state that has no income taxes. Why give away money when you're not even going to be there?
-
I agree, most anything in the midwest I70/I80 corridor should work out fine. Good luck with your endeavors.

best of luck- -
