My trailer says 80,000# in 53'.
Does this mean I cannot haul an ingot within design specifications?

If it is 53’ long. It’s 80,000 evenly distributed. But you don’t have the axles to accommodate that.

I thought you had pulled an rgn? You should know these things if you have

Yes, could place 50 tons in the well. Never had a limit on size of the item, or minimum size. Also never hauled an ingot or coil on the RGN, even though I had a coil endorsement on my license.

All RGN’s have a size limit. Mine is 55 ton in 13 feet. Some are rated in 10’ feet and some of the lighter ones are rated evenly distributed. Not all trailers are created the same.

I never gave it a second thought, since I hauled heavy equipment almost exclusively.

If you want that trailer to last I wouldn’t load a coil or ingot that weighs more than about 25 tons on it. And I would close the axles up when I did.

usually there are 2 load ratings

    for lowboy trailers

concentrates usually rated in either 10 12 or 16’

then an overall load rating for a 2 point load - blocked in the front and rear of well -especially for stretch trailers the most important number.

some people ignore these ratings but you do so at your own peril. That’s why you see soo many sagging trailers.

I have seen two point rating on stretches. But not on a standard. A good rule of thumb for a standard lowboy with 50 ton or greater is generally half the well length. That’s not always the case but more often than not. I have a 26’ well and am rated for 55 ton in 13’. Load is greatly reduced the more concentrated it is. Lots of 35-45 ton trailers are rated evenly distributed.

How many load levelers do you need on a step deck to be safe and legal? Assuming a full length load.

I assumed 4, since that all most trucks have. Ordered them today. Should be up and earning the $1 a mile loads in 2 weeks.
