I have a few theories why rates don't rise.

#1 most have but why pay independent carries more.

#2 Small and large carries to their eyes in debt so they will keep racing to the bottom even when it's a terrible business plan.

#3 and most probable car haulers are 80% clueless. If I were to ask 8 out of 10 car haulers what formula they would use to calculate a fair rate they say what ? lol

As long as I can afford a new track suit and flip flops, I'll haul anything anywhere. I'm definitely a 80 percenter!

In my world this is my formula for a 9 unit standard trailer load of mid size vehicles, which doesn't exist but for easy calculating.
$50 per vehicle pickup auction, dealer wherever. To go and load.
50 cents per mile if it's 100 or 2500 miles.
for 100 miles the load would pay $900 for 800 miles it would pay $4050
I know the response, if you don't like the rates don't haul it.

It's really simple trucking has NEVER stood up for itself because most are worried that someone else will make a buck or take the crappy customers that they have. Lack of planning or poor planning for down time to make a point over the crappy rates has been the downfall of the industry. Lack of participation regarding rulemaking that affects the industry as a whole is another issue. Everyone says" Not my problem, don't have time pick an excuse.
The bottom line is everyone is too concerned about the 5 bucks they might loose to try to change things to get the 100 bucks they deserve.
I could really get on a rant about this but I refuse to ruin my day.

I’ve said this for years. It’s the nasty backhaul word. Just because I’m headed that way doesn’t make my expenses lower.
