Most companies have a two week minimum out policy so he should be ok.

Depends alot on where you live and what you haul. I drove for a foodservice company way back when and was home on Wednesday and the weekend. It's work, but the money was decent. I also pull flat for Swift a few years back and basically stayed in a triangle from northern Indiana to south Texas to South Carolina. Guys that live along the route went home quite a bit.

i would say if home regularly is of paramount importance, he should look either for a company that will immediately give him regional work, or at least has regional drivers whose region you live in. regional is typically less miles, slightly better pay, working out usually to making less than otr. but for the little pay you give up, you gain a quite steady home life...home most weekend, maybe even through the house during the week as well depending on where in the region you live.

depending on his physical ability, he might also look into foodservice distribution. in my town the company doing this hires new drivers sometimes, pay exceedingly well (62k average i believe) and drivers work week averages 4 out of 7 days. downside is...unloading the truck. 45-50k worth of product that the driver will unload at many many stops along the way (mostly fast food restaurants). its a good gig for someone willing and able to do that much physical labor.
