Turbos with VGT are all problem makers.
Cummins VGT problem is usually related with failed VGT drive, becouse shaft was stuck and was not repared in time. Volvo VGT problem is the same with D12D engine, but with D13 really less issues.
Mercedes and Detroit VGT with pneumatic control are more reliable, but soot makes its black deal - shaft may stuck. I dont really like VGT and EGR system, but really no alternative way with new EPA and Euro emissions.
