I will become a trucker when I turn 18 and enlist, all I want is something that will stop bullets. Hell it could be a 18 speed with a piece of string for a shifter.

The only ppl who shouldn't like this post are the exact ones he's talking about !! I was trained in a box truck and when I was finished thrown into a tractor lol . I ran local for my whole career and I was out of school for about a month . I wasn't crying about the job or the tractor I was just nervous . Good luck out there drivers.

Granted the system is not working like it should but nothing beats a good school and a great trainer. I didn't have a school and I was thrown into the truck also but I had a few "old timers" that had invested their time into my skills and demanded I do good. It was their name on the line so they took the time to teach me everything they could when I was available.

Just getting a CDL and jumping in a truck is stupid and dangerous. I guess those are the ones you see flying down the grade with the brakes on fire. Sure you can learn if you live.

I would tend to agree with all the above posts about the younger generation except....Last night my brother and I were yalking on the phone about the very same thing, sort of,(our kids) andhe said how they were not cut from the same cloth as us,etc.etc.,and then,it hit me,that is EXACTLY what our Dad and his generation said about us.....Lesson here,- Hell,I dont know..:biggrin_2558: :biggrin_2556:

Right on...I was scheduled to ride with my trainer for 1 week. We got super busy that week, and my trainer convinced dispatch to let me have my own truck on day 2. "he can drive, no problem! only issues he is going to have is perfecting the unload/transfer process." which he was there for since I followed him. No better way to learn than to get out on your own and figure it out.

I realize transfer dumping is a little different but that was just our situation.

LOL, I make fun of Canada all of the time but their military deserves some serious respect. Ever heard of Juno Beach?

Oddly enough, Canada's has the best trained military in the world. A Canadian held the record for the longest sniper shot for a few years, and the only military that has better training then us would be the U.S Marines.
