Hello, Yes i am new to this industry. I went out and studied hard and passed my class A cdl with tanker endorsement. Now i don't think it was a good idea. I have a question i would like some input on. First i would like to say that i understand the reasons why OTR wouldn't work for me but does it totally exclude me from any other options.? The question is..... I am a insulin dependent diabetic that willingly gets check ups every 3 months and has great control of this condition. Does it exclude me from any option for a driving job.? Like i said, i understand why OTR wouldn't work for me but would there be any option to drive in state or maybe like a tri-state thing.? I would be interested in anything. If tractor trailer isn't going to work, is there any other option that would.? Like maybe...dock truck, dump truck or anything like that.? How do i get a driving job with no experience and all listings i've checked ask for a minimum of 1 or 2 years experience.? I do understand the danger /risk. I do follow all my state recommendations...check ups....everything to just keep my standard class drivers license. I've had no driving incidents and i have a clean driving record. I enjoy driving and would like to do it for a job. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Try city or state job. One that includes driving a dump truck or other types of trucks as part of the job.

Running intrastate you can get a waver. Just have to show a history of controlling the condition to keep a medical card for your cdl. They do at times hand them out for interstate, but they are harder to get, and it does not look like you are looking that way anyway.
Dumps, concrete trucks, lumber yard flatbeds, refuse jobs etc. Are mostly intrastate. They can pay well, and in some cases are union. You just have to go and try to get them. Some will require experience, some will not.
For most of these jobs it is best to apply in person. Go in clean and wearing work clothing, at least in the case of construction type work. Talk to them and apply. That is how I started local, with almost 0 experience.
Also look at temp company's in your area that do drivers also, this is one way many local dump companys find employees. That way they can try them out, and if they don't work out they just get another.

All of that will hinge on getting a waver for your med card. If you have that you can get a driving job. Well, if you can really drive, have the will to really try and have good work ethic.
