I just joined OOIDA as they seem like great advocates for drivers. I am a company driver right now but I am looking a leasing from my company. I want to do that for a little bit before I get my own truck. Here are my questions:

Is it a good idea to lease from your own company?

As an O/O are you finding it hard to find freight?

As an O/O are you finding it hard to get paid?

What is the best way to get financed?

A good place to get more answers would also be to chat up truckers at truck stops who are O/Os. You're going to get a huge myriad of answers and you're really the only one who can make the decision.

I can't help you but am just encouraging you to ask questions everywhere you can of the actual O/Os if you can so you get as complete a picture as possible :)

That is good advice...thanks. I have been thinking about it for a while and got prices on inusrance and authority as well the truck financing. Just not sure I have the courage to go through with it though. It is a big step!

Its a huge step. LOL But if you have a good business plan, and can get in a niche, then you'll probably do OK. We are, so far, doing OK, would be doing much better if we hadn't had to do a full in frame on the truck only three months after buying it. Hind sight. :biggrin_25525:

We are seeing freight rates increase to accommodate the increase in fuel. I don't know about other areas, but the livestock loads are keeping up with that, so we're not broke. :biggrin_2559:

Your main thing to worry about, is to put money away for the what if's. Thats what saved us from becoming a sinking ship right out of the gates. :yes2557:

I know other O/O's here that are so payment poor that they can't afford to be home. They went hog wild with the money, and financed them selfs to the gills and now are looking at bankruptcy, and loosing the truck. Not a good way to do business at all. :biggrin_25513:
