That's what I figured. Putting bunks on them just takes away extra room and weight that you could use for cars. I wonder how often they're gone though. I could swing a couple nights here and there but I can't be gone all the time unless my cat comes with me.
I have an opportunity at Cassens

Working out of Detroit you are "probably" going to be running short or local for a while. Even when you run the road you probably won't be gone more than a couple nights at a time, once you learn the job and can load and unload in a reasonable amount of time. In my opinion the worst case would be working night slip seat and having to drive back and forth to the Detroit area daily and working at night. You should ask them if this is what you will be doing, just in case that type of schedule isn't for you. Some terminals there are senior drivers who like working nights and pick these jobs and other terminals they have to force the bottom drivers to fill those spots because nobody wants them.

Where did I ever say they had sleeper cabs?
They put you up for the night. -
I just assumed if they're going to put you out all the time like that it'd be cheaper to be in a sleeper. I've seen sleepers on car haulers.12 ga Thanks this.

I have never seen a union carrier with sleepers, only exception would have been back in the day when Complete and Commercial Carriers had owner operators. Neither still exist, they were bought out by Allied which in turn was bought out by Jack Cooper.
Forget the cat, I don't think that will happen, don't take my opinion as gospel, ask Cassens. Also ask for assignment at Sterling Hts. Assembly. That would be a lot closer than Jefferson Assy. in Detroit.
Good luck and best wishes. Car haul is the best segment of trucking in my opinion, it always provided me and my family with a great standard of living. Not to mention we need all the contributors to the Central States Pension Fund we can get.finbyrd Thanks this. -
Any one know if Jack Cooper is a OK union job
-
It pays exactly the same as Cassens. It is a great company in my opinion, but everyone's opinion is subjective. It can be a great job for one person and not so for the next guy.
12 ga Thanks this. -
When E&L, Penke and Hadley were bought out and the raping and pillaging was over, when they closed the doors on all three, Jack Cooper got most of the traffic and a lot of the equipment from all three of them. Some of that equipment was on the road when I semi-retired in 2001, so it is quite old now . Guess who gets the oldest equipment.
As said before Cooper and Cassens drivers enjoy the same master carhaul contract which dictates pay scale. Area conference and local riders are where the fine detail come into play and that would be different in each local barn.Banker Thanks this. -
Anyone know if Cassens hire out of CT? I was doing flatbed but where I live you gotta be out for weeks at a time to make good money. I know United Road is hiring in my area. They are offering a Regional position. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks
