I have to think there is some freight that goes on a flat that consistently pays well. Not every broker that has it will always pay the best, but, most if they have an account like that and DO have to post it on a board because their "go-to" trucks can't cover it will, at the very least, offer above average compared to what else is posted. Some of those brokers are even more ammenable to paying more if you present yourself right (i.e. don't come across as desperate) and some of them will offer a decent rate, without budging up no matter what poker face you have. I have some that I can get $500 or more than what they would post for without question. And some that might go $200 over normal decent posted rate unless I'm at the house (without a care in the world if I roll or not) and then they have no choice
if they have no other options truck wise. Can't tell you the freight like that I have passed on that was really a decent rate with hindsight but I know I can do better, so I pass on it, and more often than not end up getting my better rate anyways at some point or another. And regardless of prevailing sentiment here you will read here "no good paying freight EVER hits a load board"..... ....well, sorry, that is just WRONG, they can't cover the good stuff every time when it's busy with their go-to guys. Loadboards do serve a purpose there. Now, for the most part it's bricks, beer, colas, and lumber, out there but sometimes the good stuff is there too.. ..you just have to know it when you see it. And try to build around it..
FREEBRD and BigBadBill Thank this. -
OK, true story and it happened today. Rollin actually bid $1300 on a 189 loaded. He didn't get it but me and another driver got a chuckle on that one. But he didn't want to run. And scary part is this customer has paid equal to that or better on this and similar runs.
You just go to love this guy.rollin coal Thanks this.
