Several companies in Texas hire with only the CDL Permit.
There's also several companies that will put you through their inhouse cdl school with only a permit.
    Where are you in Texas?
Here's some companies that hire drivers with only a CDL Permit, even though it may not be on the websites. Apply for "Driver Associate" or "Driver Helper" or "Dock to Driver."
    Labatt Foodservice
    McLane Foodservice
    Reinhart Foodservice
    Gordon Foodservice
    Sygma Network
    Fastenal
Estes Express - dock to driver program.
    Performance Food Group
    XPO Logistics
    FedEx Express
    FedEx Freight
    Sysco
*Note - These jobs aren't available at all terminals, so just submit an online application and hope for the best that some terminal will approve you.

You go to trucking school. They teach you what to learn to get through the actual CDL testing and everything involved with it.

Theoretically you can go to your pa's farm, wrestle with his truck in a field and take it to the DMV and test successfully. But not very many do this.

Prepare to pay. As in thousands of dollars for the schooling. DO NOT SIGN any contracts that bind you to paying if you do not make it your first year. Your first year or two is the most dangerous against you after the CDL because of what you don't yet know, need to learn and the things you are going to hit and break.

Food service companies pay really well, but lots of manual labor involved.
If formal classroom training is something you'd be interested in, look at these that also provide meals & lodging:
    Millis Transfer - Burleson,TX
FFE (Frozen Food Express) - Lancaster,TX
    Roehl Transport - Grand Prairie,TX
    Raider Express - Ft. Worth,TX
    Stevens Transport - Dallas,TX
    Western Dairy Transport www.wdtmilk.com - Abernathy,TX

    Western Dairy Training Academy
Looking for a new career? Western Dairy Transport is ready to help. We offer entry level training for those with a Class A CDL permit or Class A CDL, tank endorsement required for both, with little to no experience. Not only do we provide the training, Western Dairy Transport will pay you every step of the way and upon completion of your training offer a full time position with our company.

    Cesar1211 Thanks this.
