I hear so much negative from people regarding all companies. Think about covenant, werner, swift and others that constantly get bashed here. Normally within those threads you have a couple drivers completely happy with them...
Is it truly the companies being unfair? Or is it just a matter of drivers not sucking it up?
Maybe I am wrong but it just seems to me that you can make any company treat you right as long as you do your part. Dispatchers and Load people have a job to get loads delivered. They depend on you to do that job and I would think that if you do your part, they would do theirs. Im not saying you are gonna get a week off every month on a miami beach somewhere.
People who complain about not getting loads or short loads. I sit here and think about it and I would do the same thing. I would give the drivers that I knew could get the job done the bigger jobs. I would give students and smart ##### the little jobs until they have proven they are dependable. I may be totally off base but it seems like if you can get a good status with your dispatcher to where you trust each other, that's when you move up the totem pole to better loads.... no?
We all know that recruiters lie. But we all know the general rules of thumb for this business. 1 day home for 1 week out, and normally you are out 2-4 weeks before coming home.
I am just getting back into trucking so I have spent a lot of time here. I just have to wonder if the companys are really that ###### or if its the drivers who are complaining that are just whining and pitching a temper tantrum because you didn't get paid 300 for laying over one night.
Can most dispatchers eventually become sort of a distant friend to where one hand washes the other or are they truly just ##### that have nothing better to do than to try to make you mad?
I have to ask this...

Well, I guess one has to ask; If fifty guys are complaining and two aren't, what does that say?
I see what you're saying, but these megacarriers all seem to have substantially more against them, than for them, so, either we have a ton of folks that are whining for no good reason or two that would sing praises about a company even if said company threw them headfirst into a vat of crap every morning as part of the pre-trip.
As for dispatchers; I've had those that cared zero about their drivers and kept their eye on the bonus and others that took good care of me. -
interesting stuff. You also gotta throw in that people who are happy with their jobs probably aren't coming to the forums here, they are probably out driving hehehe.
Im just kinda torn on a few issues and I have a lot of confusion that I am trying to decide exactly what path I should take.Darkschneidr Thanks this. -
If a company has to continuously keep hiring people because of high turn over rate. Let's say they have 85% turnover rate(being generous with that number), which most of the ones you described do. Maybe half of them are whiners or complainers, what does that say about the other half? If these companies would actually focus on retention and deal with the problems. You would not see as many complaints on this site.
Something I think would help fix the problem in this industry is, take the training school programs away from the trucking companies. I think its too easy for these bottom feeder companies to keep a vicious cycle going.Joetro Thanks this. -

I heard a guy that got out of prison after 36 months. He said "it wasn't all that bad".
Depends how good you are at sucking it up I guess. If you didn't get $300 for a layover that would be one thing, but when you don't get the twenty bucks you were promised, you realize you're in a fight for your survival. SUCK IT UP! -
.
Having been on the recieving end of some of Covenants policies.
I can safely state, they pick their favorites, cover them. And the hell with what you think about it.
Billy Bob stays loaded, always has a pre-plan. Always gets home every 3 weeks without fail. And never has a check less than 3000 miles.
While Joe Bob, always sits for his next load. The majority of his loads are 800 miles or less, with 5 days to deliver. And he frequently relays loads to teams, after spending most of the day getting loaded.
Sounds like a fairy tale...right? -

Yeah the mega carriers suck but it also depends on the type of person you are and how much BS you can take from them. So it all boils down to you.
