This thread gave me a bit more confidence. I drove for 6 years, in October 2022 I took a position as a Safety Coordinator at a local company to be home with my son. I see him less now than I did when I was gone for 8 to 10 weeks at a time! I miss my truck and HATE being in the office. I do like that i'm the kind of safety guy people like, but that's probably because i was a driver myself and understand the little nuances, but I can't keep the charade up of believing I enjoy doing what i'm currently doing. I want to throw chain and straps again. I was far less stressed and made WAY more money.

I know this is an old post, but I found it because i'm concerned about being rusty.

I was out on medical for 3 months a while back.
I kept in close contact with my tm, letting him know my status and how I was getting along healing.
When game day came, I started with short days to rebuild my stamina, and had a check ride with a trainer to refresh myself on the program.
Spent half a day with the trainer, ran a couple easy loads to brush up on the process and driving.
Next day I was rolling solo.
Dispatch and I were on the phone constantly, ensuring I was good, and supporting me getting back into the saddle.
That was two years ago this month.
You’ll slide right back into your groove while you’re doing it.
    It’ll all come right back.
    Key points…
Communicate with dispatch, other drivers, and be honest with yourself.
Take it easy out of the gate.
Build yourself up to full bore, don’t go wild right off.
Smooth is fast, fast is smooth. Be smooth. Fast comes.
    You got this.

After a month of being in a truck, it'll be like you never stopped.

Hi! So I think you will be fine, but it all is dependent on what your experience and skills were like before quitting driving. But, with OTR 2 years experience before it seems like you are going to do fine! The company I work at, Keller Trucking, we do road tests to see where you are at, so even then if you needed some training to freshen up those skills, we would offer that. But, genuinely, I think you will do great! If you are interested in looking into us, visit: Regional Truck Driver or call Tiffany direct at 419.785.3232
