I want to start my trucking career, yet I don't know where to start. I would relocate around south east cost. I am thinking either in Texas, Florida or Virginia, so if i could get some reccomendations from experienced people, I would be really happy. I want to start a new life pereferably by the ocean. I am waiting for your valuable comments. In a way, you will form my future. Thanks to you all in advance and God bless you all.

Just avoid CR Egland & Werner. The rest of the starter companies are about the same with Maverick being the best.in my opinion.

Florida could potentially limit your options especially starting out. Keep that in mind.

    Good luck.

Millis is a good company. Have new training facility in Burleson TX just South of Ft Worth. I think they have other facilities as well.

Crete Carrier. They will send you with a trainer for 2 months. Then they will pay a higher rate than others. Crete has a terminal in Deland Florida. But Florida is not the best place for a truck driver. You will be limited to what companies hire in Florida. Many companies will not hire from there. Also, if you live there or near the coast, it is more difficult to get home. I prefer to live inland. You will sometimes pass tbru home on a load. Don't expect to make big money your first year. But if you stick it out, you will have more companies to choose from and your payrate will get better over 2-3 years. I suggest you call Crete and see what they offer. I don't have personal experience with other companies.Trucking is a thankless job. Don't expect to be treated nicely. Then you might not get as disappointed. But you can get ahead financially. Eventually. Good luck.

Go to watkins shepard. They'll put you through a 10 day orientation/training, then stick you in your own rig once if you complete orientation to their satisfaction. They will start you at 29cpm, thats four cents higher per mile than the nations largest training company, Swift. Plus you do not have to deal with company training teams which are a nightmare. Avoid CRST at all costs. They will start you at 19cpm if they train you and you'll be forced to split that 19cpm with another new driver once you finish training because they are a team only operation. thats less than ten cents per mile, and because freight is generally slow over there you will literally be splitting 180 bucks a week on average...

After you get done with a trainer at Crete, your payrate should be $.34/mile if you go 48 states.

I am in Millis' training program right now, just finished the second of three weeks. I must say that everything they have promised, they have delivered. The instructors (here in Cartersville, Ga) are friendly, honest, and helpful. The classes are small ( 8 in my class with two instructors, 4 students each) We get plenty of time behind the wheel backing and driving. After 15k miles with a trainer, five to eight weeks, they assign a tractor to you. No slip seating. Very nice equipment. And there seems to be no shortage of miles.

PM me if you have any questions I can answer for you. I did a lot of research and couldn't be happier with my decision.
