My last co-driver quit and went with WE. They talked him into abandoning the truck in JAX while I was up in KY for my hometime. The idiot actually took a pay cut to go there because he was promised regional. I told him he should do some research on this forum first but he was way too cool for that. Hope he gets what he deserves since I had to take a bus to Jacksonville only to find the truck had been towed.
I hope all the bad things are true

Sounds like a "real winner" to me. He sorta screwed you, you'll be better off without that one.

But on the same token, you really shouldn't be wishing bad luck on the guy, that always seemed to come back and haunt me whenever I did that. -
It's not the first story I've heard where Western won't pick up the phone to keep the driver in the loop. Did they tell you to go to JAX to pick it up? My son just got there for orientation. I hope he didn't just walk into the jaws of an alligator. I know it's a tough biz, but from the stories, they seem particularly harsh and non-caring towards their drivers. Also, they don't care enough about a theft problem at the repair shop to put in a few cameras? As an owner, I'd put up with that for about 2 seconds!

Western actually talked him into abandoning a truck? like thats not something they are not familiar with

Hope he got everything in writing. If not he's gonna be hate'n life very soon.
Thing is, if he was a reasonably OK driver and could have worked for just about company. The abandonment is gonna kill any other job opportunity, so he is now stuck at WE. AND they KNOW this and will use it against him.rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
I read the owner of Western Express Died. Whats going on there?
-
He did die. I am not sure what is going on with the company. They bought a whole bunch of brand new cascadias. I got one of them, but i left them shortly afterwards
-
Wayne wise died a few months ago from some form of heart problem.
I find that hard to believe, I didn't think he had one.
His wife/widow Donna is still in the thick of things, but the day to day has been turned over to Paul Wieck, as pres protem. He was a VP of some sort, been at WE for 10-12 years.
On all the new equipment.
They sold a bunch of corporate junk bonds to finance the company for a while. like 300 million. If history holds true, they will burn the cash and be back in hard times soon. -
I worked for western back in 2005 I belive, for about 3 months what a joke these clowns are! At first wasn't bad I had a dm that actually had a clue about the trucking industry. He seemed to care about and take care of us drivers on his board.well guess what after just 2 months he was history he didn't fit the western dm template, which is clueless 18 yr old college kids who treat u like garbage and could care less. If that isn't enough for u there starting pay was the same in 05 as it is now n 2010 yikes! !!!! Sad drive that shiny new truck around for peanuts.
Well that's all dust in the wind now I left the trucking industry n 2007 after I was able to get a job at a local aggregate quarry. I now work 5 days a week home every night 3 weeks vacation after just 3 1/2 yrs with company plus still making 40k a year. The best part of current job is all lvls of management know our names, talk to us like human beings, and they treat us like kings because they relize who's doing the grunt work that makes the company what it is unlike the trucking industry. I have all the respect n the world for u guys still out there being treated like trash hope the rest of u get blessed as i was and get away from this garbage industry! !!Last edited: Dec 6, 2010

out of 2,000 plus driver's they have this is only a handful of former driver's who has bad things to say about them. there are no perfect companies and i wish these disgruntled ex-driver's who shut up and stop b***ching like females! it's work! and all work is not easy... find another career path if u can't man up and be a trucker!

IF you have a family, you're screwed. IF you're single...you're fine with Western Express.
