You're already smarter than me. I had 300k in savings 5 years ago and then proceeded to burn through all of it. As someone else said, it's very hard to get back once it's gone. I've been trying to climb out of debt for the last year and barely making a dent in it.

That's kinda the point of this thread, I admit the money has made it easier to not care about my career, if you've ever wanted to tell your boss to go eff himself but you don't because you need the paycheck. Well when you suddenly have more money than you thought you'd ever have it becomes very easy to do just that.

As I said I've spent 30k of the 160k but it was on car note and credit cards, I haven't spent hardly any else of it, both my sisters are surprised I don't have a new car in the driveway like they do. I've worked all but a couple months but haven't really been inspired to save any of my paycheck and like to take fun weekend trips so yeah I've spent a bit, but it's been reasonable in the grand scheme of things.

I don't want it to ruin me as it seems to be to my sisters who are constantly going to the galleria and other expensive shopping trips while I still shop at Costco.

I started this thread to get advice on how to use it to make money as an Owner Operator as it seems some of them can clear over 100k a year if they know what they're doing.

Why does this feel like a lottery winner story that blows it all in a few years? Luke, in the long run, $130k ain't that much when it comes to retirement. Probably about 6 grand a year extra for an old fart to live on. Is that a lot to you?

You did great paying off your debts. It's a good start, but you aren't going to retire on the rest. Take $100k of that money right now, go find someone you know and respect who already has a lot of money (seriously, why would you ask a broke ### someone for a reference), and ask them to recommend a retirement advisor. Then tell the advisor you want to put it away safely for your retirement (not theirs).

Use the other $30k however you want to. My advice, invest it in something that no one can ever take away from you - education. Or go for the carpet cleaning business. :)

Ah Ha...Just the kind of reply I was looking for thank you my friend... on that very topic would all agree a flatbed trailer is the way to go. I do have experience hauling Heat Exchangers out of refineries and chemical plants.

Is it fair to say a OO with a paid off truck and trailer should be able to make 100k a year after expenses?

What other companies are good to get on with if you have a PAID OFF truck and not a lease. Landstar and Mercer....any others.

A sound reply....Thank you my friend. I've been talking to some places, Edward Jones, Lincoln Financial, definitely want to invest. Need to learn more about it.

As a funny side story one of my sisters is a teacher and with this inheritance she's gotten she's decided to take the next year off work, she hates her job, and that's funny to me, as a truck driver I'm constantly seeing all the time off teachers get and they STILL hate their jobs. She did say if I start a business she'd come work for me though.

You see, there you go. If you wait long enough someone would come along with the answer YOU are looking for. Forget all the good advice you've gotten, do it your way, then by all means stop by this time next summer and let us know how things are going for you.

If you have the business sense to make it as an O/O do it the old fashioned way. Start small and build your business over time preferably without using any of your own money. If you don't own a house buy one or better yet buy a duplex and rent the other side for cash flow. Keep your business and personal funds separate.

I wanted to add into this with another thought. how old are you? if under 30 put all but a very small amount, say 5k into a trust fund( set up as invested in a safe very low risk mutual fund, rolling over all dividends) that you can not touch till you are 30. maybe 35. those years might give you the maturity not to blow through it. not saying you are immature, I'm saying all of us are/were immature in our 20's. and very few of us were good with money then. getting a big chunk, when you have never had much, is very difficult to deal with in a money smart way. and it goes fast man, real fast.

I had an old trucker friend tell me once what he'd do if he ever hit the lotto. His statement? "Keep trucking until I lost it all."
