I drove straight truck from 1968 until I got my class A in June 1970. I drove in 44 states. I have been an employee driver, contract truckman, owner operator ( as in clear title in my name only) and operated under my own Cal T number in the peoples republic of calif. I worked seven years as a fleet engine mechanic. I have Cummins certification in 1984. When I first drove by the mile the pay was 10 cents per mile. That was good money in those days.

I retired in August 2009. I enjoyed driving and being on the road until the last day. I found a cash buyer for my Century. I did have my problems with the compliance dept. I liked the convenience of Qualcomm communication but not the tracking. Since I owned the truck, I thought I should be exempt from being tracked. I wasn't intent on driving until I was exhausted or fell asleep at the wheel but some days you have more energy than others and who better to judge my condition than me. There used to be a sticker that read " This truck is mine! Don't tell me how to run it"

I would still be driving but developed night blindness. I could drive at night in good weather but if it's raining or snowing at night I can't see well enough to be safe. There have been many changes since I started.
