The last time I operated an excavator I was a kid helping my uncle move one from one farm to another. I absolutely wouldn’t be safe moving one by myself today without some refresher training. I find it odd when people think they can enter a “specialized” field with no “specialized” experience. Why do they think specialized pays more than general freight?

This thread has got to be a joke.

If not maybe I should go out and buy a submarine and make a thread somewhere trying hire a captain to go out to give submarine tours and make me some money and teach me the tricks!
Screw these cheap trucking rates, submarine touring company here I come!!! :D

If you have any common sense, and a little patience, you’ll be fine. You tube, insta, that kind of thing you can glean some tips. As to if you should be doing it, or if you can do it, that’s another question only time will tell. What size excavator is it? If it’s over 10 wide, you’ll be restricted to curfew hours in the cities. I can tell you this much from a startup business owner, that the first year will be rough. You’ll have fee’s and costs that you no way planned on. Once you figure out how much money you need to operate your business, just from a costs and o/m stand point, you’ll find out how much cheaper everyone is running right now, than you can. If your plan is just to run with one guy, and guaranteed work, than maybe that’s different. But if you’re gonna run the boards, good luck. It’s taken me three years off of the boards to build up some customer base, and that’s still a gamble. I didn’t take a single paycheck out of the business for 18 months in the beginning, every dime went back into the business.

Yup, and that's all I'm saying. The side rod had quite a bit to say though.

I admire the ambition the OP has. It's a tough racket even if you know what you're doing. I think he's going to learn some hard lessons. He might be better off hiring a full time driver and learning from him.

it’s a friend of mine’s company and I’m trying to hire an experienced driver or ride with someone else before doing it myself.

Your going to far on the Ice Cream truck driver! I've never been assaulted yet. And I'm a repeat customer.

But I never had a priest hit on me either! Guess I was a ugly kid.
