    No disrespect Diesel Boss,

I'm on my third Rand McNally device since June 3/12. If I had not bought @ a TA (and exchanged them) then I would still be waiting for my first replacement because I haven't been by the house. Both times I have exchanged my defective units in less than 10 minutes. You don't get that kind of service shopping on line.It is beyond me why anyone would buy anything on line that they can buy from a bricks and mortar style retailer. Why would you choose to not support a merchant who pays property taxes and creates local jobs. Couple that with the fact that it's nice to support a full service truckstop chain because the industry needs them. If you're spending the same amount of money why would you not buy from a retailer instead of buying on line?

No disrespect taken. In the spirit of clarity, please allow me to respond to your points though:

    - As I said previously, you are correct that the advantage to buying from a chain retailer when you are a truck driver is that if you need to make an exchange you can normally route yourself past one of those locations somewhere out there. I don't make power plugs, which is probably why you have had to exchange in the first place.

    - I AM a brick and mortar retailer. Drivers come here all the time. I have been a brick and mortar retailer for 13 years. Drivers exchange things here in 10 minutes too. Again, the difference is that I only have one location, but let's be clear there. I-5, exit 233.

    - I pay LOTS of taxes. Property tax, corporate income tax, inventory tax, personal income tax, unemployment insurance, workers compensation insurance, OSHA and building inspection fees... Every time I make a dollar, 6 or 7 hands take a piece of it.

    - I represent the voice of small business. My business employs 5 local citizens who also then pay taxes directly back into the local economy and to the feds, verses the money going to a central corporate office 2000 miles from the location where you actually bought something out on the road. Truck stop chains aren't going anywhere. They have a "captive audience."

You are correct that most "online" retailers do not have a brick and mortar business. But we are not one of them. Just keeping the records straight man...

Thanks for the clarification and your points are duly noted!

You're an OK on line retailer in my books "dieselboss".

I'm not going to comment on the issue above because I'd like to steer this discussion. OK, these are my INITIAL impressions. I have not had this unit a week yet. Keep that in mind because something I may say now, may change later. Also keep in mind that I'm always comparing it to my Garmin 465T because that's what I have/had. So far, I like the unit. The speaker is louder than the 465T. I REALLY like the ability to create "Folders" to separate different drops I make. The adjustable ETA feature is nice. Also the ability to set your own preset speed warning and configure it for Audio only, audio and visual, or visual only is nice. I wish it had a "Home" in truck mode. The wi-fi seems like it would be a really great feature for an OTR driver. I like that I can add notes for my drop but haven't been able to figure out how to read them yet. The 7" screen gives the ability to give a lot more info simultaneously. I think that's plenty for the little bit of time I've had it. More to come.

I have had the 710 for almost 2 years without incident, with exception to the cord becoming increasingly more loose as the miles roll by. I've been pleased with it. But now it seems to be developing "Alzheimer's" as it is becoming slower and more forgetful daily, even though I purchased the updates. I've been waiting to see how the 720 performs (at least get some feedback) and the comments here have sealed it.

Thanx for the good info :yes2557:
