Between a dry van you learn on and hauling cars? Hell yeah LOL! With a van you just gotta hook and drop- some jobs you'll have to load, secure the load, and unload. But right outta driving school all you're used to is hook / unhook. When it comes to cars, you gotta be REAL careful. You have to have on clean clothes so you don't get the interior dirty, you have to ensure the ramps are lined up right, and depending on what kinda trailer you load (3 car wedge or 10 car stinger) you will have a lot or almost no clearance to open the doors to get in and out. Then you have to either chain the frame down, or strap the wheels down. Some cars you can't chain down, and straps are your only option. I'm not pro car hauler, but have been doing it on my 3 car wedge for over a year claim free and kinda enjoy it LOL. Lemme know if you have any other specific questions. I'll just stress you gotta be CAREFUL! Scratches get expensive real quick.
Fiddle Sticks Thanks this. -
thank you for the info
a friend of mines buddy owns his own company and there is a better than average chance that i can get in there. i was just wondering how much diferent it is to haul cars vs a dry box. not sure if the job is going to pan out but i would be nice to get off of unemployment quickly and not have to go drive cross country for someone like werner making jack #### -

In just 3 days I will be hauling cars for 1 year. I am damage free but I dont get into a rush like most of the other guys that I work with. We work long, hard hours in all kinds of weather. Doesnt matter if it's 110° or 10°, raining, snowing, etc we work. That can be a real pain. Most of my loads are local but I do go out of town every now and again. In fact just got back yesterday from 2 nights in south Texas. I make what I consider a fairly good living but I drive a 4 car hauler. The other guys that are driving the 9 and 10 car rigs make a butt load more money than I do.
You need to make sure that you can manuver a large truck in tight spaces. You may be on some car lots that are really tight and may only have a couple of inches on either side. You may unload in the street and trust me, the general public that drive dont give a #### if you are trying to work in the street or not. Actually they play a game called lets see how close we can get with out hitting the car hauler.
But I have finally found the job that I love doing... -
Congrats newguy. Go for it. There are many benefits of being a car hauler. No matter what you pull behind you they each have their own unique way of loading and securing. Drivers bounce around different aspects of trucking. You have to find your fit and what you enjoy.
