I just signed on with a sand hauler in PA.....

dont matter to me where I run as long as i get a decent check....probably PA,Ohio,WV

Sweet that you're getting a new rig off the bat. I hope you picked a sleeper with a good APU.

Word is that the frack-pullers spend a lot of time in north-west PA on relatively short runs but very difficult.
Lot of off road driving and waiting in the field. It's not unusual that you might be out for 5-6 days and not turn over 700 miles.

From what I hear, though, you WILL be out in the sticks. Most of the towns have exploded so fast they can't handle the population growth.

The "capital" of PA Shale seems to be Williamsport. But they're hiring guys from down in the Harrisburg 81/76 corridor.
So a half a day to get onsite and then you'll commute in and out of Williamsport to various fields.

Just a warning, most secondaries in PA are very difficult for drivers use to OTR. And PA just de-graded a mess of bridges.

So the added travel time between "remote drill-site A" and "frack-sand plant B" might be extended because some 100 year old concrete span over a drainage ditch is now only rated for 6 tons and what should have been a 120 mile 4 hour drive is now a 6 hour detour to the other side of the Alleghenies.

 

Thanks for so much info...I have a bunk heater and inverter....as far as the roads...I hauled water (home daily)for an outfit so I know what to look forward too yet the overall life style is new...such as showers,and pay per say...I never OTR..always crap roads and the such so "muddin" aint so bad...the more i can find out from you guys out there the better....

I found a nice little indy truckstop in McElhattan, PA. The Bald Eagle.

And there's like 3-4 truck stops in Lamar off of I-80.

Might not get access to a shower in the field so you might want to pack a couple of pairs of gear for when your knee deep in muck.

Once you get your rig, take some time to find a place for everything.

"Clean as you go" and "Everything in it's place" are words to live by.

Don't leave your laptop out on a top shelf when getting underway. *crash* Yeah I did that.

So inside your cabin, secure, secure, secure is the word of the day.
