...I drove for them just a short while back in 2008 as I was just coming out of school which I had paid for on my own. Let me set the tone by saying that I have 99% positive to say about them.
They were the first company I applied to and they gave me that critical first opportunity. Christine was my recruiter and she never, not once, told me a lie or misled me with information. She was there throughout the process and guided me every step of the way.
Orientation was both informative and friendly. Everyone from safety, recruiting, and operations was cordial and helpful. I admit that I was somewhat intimidated by the obstacle course but I passed it first time with plenty of padding in my overall score. Not everyone in my group was so fortunate. The Smith System course was very good.
The motel and the terminal facilities were first class all the way!
My trainer was Coach Bob who I understand is somewhat of a legend with CFI. He was patient, informative, tough when necessary, and just a great all-round guy. He took me through the Grapevine and a couple of other "pucker factor" stretches of asphalt that gave me confidence that I probably would have otherwise missed. Further, he made sure I had a truck before he turned me loose. Thanks Bob!
My first truck was T6 that I cannot complain about. Overall a great tractor. She was #23000.
I got lots of miles right out of the starting gate and I ran anything I was asked. If I was in a terminal and the dispatcher needed something, I took it. I even took the yard truck out to do a pickup once in Joplin when the dispatcher needed something picked up in north Joplin.
I had an incident where I dented my passenger steps during a backup at a load. I reported it to safety and they routed me back to Joplin for review. I just knew that I would be terminated when I got there. Not the case. They reviewed the accident, gave me some instruction, had me watch some remediation videos and sent me on my way. I left there feeling like they really understood and cared about me as a driver.
Miles? I couldn't complain. I made good money, especially considering I was a wet rookie.
So, why did I leave? One reaason and one reason only. My DM was making no effort to get me home. I am a husband, father, and PopPop before anything else in life. When I inquired about highlighting I was lectured about staying out a lot longer than I was willing. So, I got home and stayed there.
Thank you Conway/CFI for allowing me to experience one of the things on my Bucket List. Just a couple of things different and I would still be with you.

Thanks for sharing. Nice to see not everyone has only bad things to say about a company.

You will find there is quite a bit of positive to be said for Conway Truckload, and the Freight guys seem to be happy as well. I personally couldn't be happier with Conway other than the issues of my hilite getting screwed up twice. That being said, my FM has been great about fixing things quickly.

I have been here for 9 months and also have Nothing but Good to say about Conway.Cowboy Pastor, you should have asked for a different dispatcher. My 1st one sucked, the one I have now is AWESOME!!!. I Never have problems getting home when I want. I highlighted for home time for Christmas and got a pre plan for home the next day, sooner than I actually wanted to go home. I am Very Happy here.

One of the things that attracted me to Con-Way was the LACK of negative info I heard here and other places. Most every time I mentioned Con-Way, I always heard things like "yea, they are a good company". It's a tough decision to pick your first place to start, and I'm super glad I picked Con-Way and had a great finishing experience here too. Crowder was great, and really set the pace for things to expect along the way. Not everyone in my class made it. After 7 months, I'm overall very happy here, though I'll be honest ( maybe greedy too) and say that I could always use more miles, but you could probably say that about any company.
paul_4lp and lonewolf4ad Thank this. -
I thought Conway pulls double

Isn't that Cowan,
completely different outfit ? -
My exit was due to "the Perfect Storm" type of event that fell my way. Being a newbie from Florida and experiencing my first real winter type driving, I had the misfortune of getting 3 winter dispatches to Canada in a period of 15 days in February 2012. It was a bit more than my wife and I could take. Short of that situation, I would still be with Con-way as well. -
