Even if you don't have a Volvo, you can do the same thing by only locking the truck door by using the key. I have a Freightliner, and when I am getting out of the truck, the only way I lock the truck door is by using the truck key to lock the door.

My 2022 freightliner is dummy proof. It will only lock when you put a key in and lock it. I had it happen once. A guy with a freightliner asked. I tried but it wouldn't unlock his door.

You cannot lock the truck from inside the truck with a key. So I am confident that actually you can lock the truck without a key by pressing the button WHILE THE TRUCK DOOR IS CLOSED. It probably is made so that you cannot lock the truck door while the door is open. That would make it dummy proof.
I don't need a dummy proof truck because when I am getting out of the truck, I only lock the truck door with my key, not by pressing a button. -
Reminds me of a story years ago, was working for a major LTL company, all Navistar fleet(at the time), linehaul drivers had assigned tractors, drivers were issued a key, told to keep it with them, even when not working. We had a driver(one of many) that was very possessive of his company truck, he stopped by an IH dealer, and paid them to ‘tighten up’ the door locks, so only his key would unlock the doors. Needless to say, one day his truck was needed when he was off duty, and nobody from the yard could find a key to unlock, had to call a locksmith to open the truck. He got himself ‘heap big trouble’ for that.

I locked myself out once at a casino in Oklahoma. My only choice was a locksmith. After that, I got a spare and looped it on a zip tie and looped it on my brake fluid thingy under the hood. Never again.

If you ride with a dog, your dog will lock your door. Keep a spare key on you. Your "hidden" key on the truck is hidden in the same place as 90% of all other hidden keys. You are leaving a key for criminal.

No one has ever asked for my key that I can remember. I would never give someone my key, but I would be more that happy to try my key to help them. And I have locked my self out of my truck before, so I have 2 hidden keys now.The_vett and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
I always lock it with the key. But now that they started using those button locks like a car, I found that you can unknowing bump the button as you’re getting out of the truck.
Luckily there was another driver from my company in the yard and I was able to use his key and unlock it. And also , I wasn’t far from our yard/garage.
but, lesson learned . I got two extra keys from the garage . One for my car key ring and one to stow under the hood.The_vett and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
I've seen it work. Pete 389 to Pete 389.The_vett Thanks this.

Its not uncommon for fleets to order a line of trucks at a time and they all have the same key code. In 1974 my uncle bought three 359’s. All same key.The_vett, Feedman and blairandgretchen Thank this.
